Bobby Thompson (comedian)
Robert Michael Thompson (18 November 1911 – 16 April 1988) was a stand-up comedian, actor and entertainer from Penshaw, Sunderland. Although he was raised in Penshaw, he also lived in Great Lumley and Barley Mow, near Chester-le-Street, later moving to Whitley Bay. Early years He was the seventh child of John and Mary Thompson, both of whom died by the time Bobby was eight years old. He was then raised by his elder sister in the village of Fatfield. After leaving school at fifteen, he started work at North Biddick Colliery, earning seven shillings and sixpence a week. He would supplement his income by playing the harmonica around local public houses and competing in Domino tournaments. His first stand-up performance took place at the Gem Cinema in Penshaw as a young boy. Thompson was married three times. His first wife was Anna Marjoram . Robert Randall Thompson (born May 10, 1962) is an American former professional baseball player and coach. He played his entire career in Major League Baseball (1986–1996) as the second baseman for the San Francisco Giants. During the Giants' resurgence in the late 1980s, he was known as a team leader who played the game with a gritty determination. Thompson most recently served as the bench coach for the Seattle Mariners, for the 2011 through 2013 seasons. Early life Thompson was born in West Palm Beach, Florida. He played for the University of Michigan from 1979 to 1982 and in the NFL for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Detroit Lions. Robert Thompson (11 January 1869 – 5 February 1952) was an Irish rugby union forward who was a member of the British Isles XV that toured South Africa in 1891. Thompson fought for the British Army during the World War as a captain in the Royal Irish Regiment Personal history Thompson was born at Muckamore Abbey, Muckamore in County Antrim, to Samuel Thompson, who was originally from Cheltenham. Thompson was educated King William's College on the Isle of Man and, later, at Cheltenham College; he was later accepted into Pembroke College, Cambridge in 1888. Thompson gained his Bachelor of Arts in 1891. He married Margaretta Louise Trench on 24 January 1911. Robert Townshend Thompson (1792–August 9, 1887) was a Virginia lawyer, planter and politician in Fairfax County, Virginia, which he represented in the Virginia House of Delegates for nearly a decade (1816–1825).
