Sir Robert Christopher Stafford Stanley, KBE, CMG, OBE (12 May 1899 – 15 November 1983) was a British colonial administrator. After serving as Chief Secretary of Northern Rhodesia, he was appointed High Commissioner of the Western Pacific in January 1952, although he did not arrive in Suva, Fiji, until June, taking up his duties on 3 July. He was the first person to hold the office separately from the Governor of Fiji, the two positions having been joined since 1877. After touring the British Western Pacific Territories, which included the Solomon Islands, New Hebrides, and the Gilbert and Ellice Islands in September, he moved the High Commission to Headquarters to Honiara in the Solomon Islands on 22 December. Robert Morris Stanley (August 19, 1912 – July 16, 1977) was an American test pilot and engineer. He became the first American to fly a jet aircraft as a test pilot for Bell Aircraft. Early life Robert Morris Stanley was born in El Reno, Oklahoma on August 19, 1912, to George and Jenny (Coffman) Stanley. His family moved to Venice, California where he finished high school and then enrolled at the California Institute of Technology majoring in aeronautical engineering. Stanley worked part time at the Douglas Aircraft Company during the creation of the DC-1 and DC-2 to help finance his education. While still a student, Stanley created a patent for a mechanically controlled reversible pitch propeller later copied and used by the German Luftwaffe. Robert Crooks Stanley (August 1, 1876 – February 12, 1951) was an American industrialist and mining engineer. He was chairman and president of International Nickel Company and discovered the alloy Monel. Biography Stanley was born on August 1, 1876 in Little Falls, New Jersey. He attended Montclair High School as a star football player and graduated from the Stevens Institute of Technology in 1899 and received his engineer of mines degree from Columbia School of Mines in 1901. Stanley joined International Nickel (Inco) in 1901, serving as general superintendent from 1914 to 1918, and as vice president from 1918 to 1922. He then served as president from 1922 to 1950 and was chairman from 1937 until his death. Under Stanley, nickel reached worldwide importance, and the company saw rapid growth after World War I, producing 75% of the world's nickel. Robert William Stanley (born November 10, 1954) is an American former professional baseball relief pitcher who spent his entire Major League Baseball (MLB) career with the Boston Red Sox. Robert Reschid Stanley (1828–1911) was a British grocer, tea trader and mayor (1874–76) of Stalybridge, near Manchester. He is best known for his conversion to Islam. As a Muslim, he served as vice chair at the Liverpool Muslim Institute. Early life Robert Stanley was born in 1828 in Cardiff. He was sent from Cardiff at the age of 10 to be an apprentice at his Christian Israelite uncle's shop in Ashton-under-Lyne.
