Robert Smith (born December 22, 1992) is a former American football safety. He played college football for the Clemson Tigers. Early life Smith attended Woodland high school in Dorchester, South Carolina where he graduated in 2011. College career Smith committed to Clemson on January 15, 2010 and enrolled in July 2011. Smith was enrolled at Clemson from 2011 to 2014 and played all four years for Dabo Swinney's Tigers, playing in 53 games over that span. Professional career Indianapolis Colts On May 4, 2015, after going undrafted, Smith was signed by the Indianapolis Colts. On August 6, 2015 Smith was waived by the Colts to make room for Tevin Mitchel. Safety is a position in gridiron football on the American football positions#Defense, defense. The safeties are defensive backs who line up ten to fifteen yards from the line of scrimmage. There are two variations of the position: the free safety and the strong safety. Their duties depend on the defensive scheme. The defensive responsibilities of the safety and cornerback usually involve pass coverage towards the middle and sidelines of the field. While American (11-player) formations generally use two safeties, Canadian (12-player) formations generally have one safety and two Halfback (Canadian football), defensive halfbacks, a position not used in the American game. Dabo Swinney
William Christopher "Dabo" Swinney (; born November 20, 1969) is an American football coach, currently serving as the head coach at Clemson University. Swinney took over midway through the 2008 season, following the resignation of Tommy Bowden. Swinney has led them to national championships in 2016 and 2018, and trails only Frank Howard for the most wins by a head coach in Clemson history. On September 8, 2022, Swinney signed a new contract extension that keeps him the head coach of the Clemson Tigers through the 2031 football season and pays him $115 million over the duration of the contract. Tevin Mitchel (born August 3, 1992) is a former American football cornerback. He was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the sixth round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He played college football at the University of Arkansas. The 2011 Clemson Tigers football team represents Clemson University in the 2011 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Tigers were led by head coach Dabo Swinney in his third full year and fourth overall since taking over midway through 2008 season.
