Robert Shaw (footballer)
Robert Shaw (born 6 January 1955) is a former Australian rules footballer with the Essendon Football Club and coach in the VFL/AFL with the Fitzroy and Adelaide Football Clubs. Shaw was recruited from Sandy Bay Football Club in Tasmania. Playing career Essendon Football Club Recruited from Tasmanian club, Sandy Bay, Shaw played 51 games between 1974 and 1981 for the Essendon Football Club and was noted as a talented defender who was struck down by injury throughout a promising career. Shaw underwent nine major operations finally retiring at the end of the 1982 season. Tasmania State of Origin Shaw also represented Tasmania in the 1979 and 1980 State of Origin carnivals and overall played six games for his state. Sandy Bay Football Club
The Sandy Bay Football Club was an Australian rules football club based in Sandy Bay, Tasmania. The team participated in the Tasmanian Football League from 1945 to 1997. Club history The club was founded in November 1944 as a result of a meeting called by the late Bill Barwick at Wrest Point Riviera (now Wrest Point Casino). With World War II in its final stages it became clear that some former TANFL clubs would not survive and as a result, the League's Constitution was amended to provide for district football. In 1945 four clubs, Sandy Bay, North Hobart, New Town and Hobart, took part in the revamped competition. Sandy Bay adopted the colours of Royal Blue and White, the playing jumper was Royal Blue and White with a white seagull on the breast. 1992 AFL Season
The 1992 AFL season was the 96th season of the Australian Football League (AFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Australia, which was known as the Victorian Football League until 1989. The season featured fifteen clubs, ran from 21 March until 26 September, and comprised a 22-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top six clubs. Prior to the season, the AFL ceased its role as the administrative body for football in Victoria after 95 years: this role was transferred, along with control of the reserves competition, to the newly established Victorian State Football League (VSFL). Subsequently, the Victorian AFL clubs' under-19s competition was dissolved, and zone-based recruiting was abolished. Neville Shaw
Neville William Shaw (born 4 October 1964) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Shaw, a Keon Park Stars recruit, was the youngest of three brothers to play for Collingwood. Ray Shaw, 10 years older, had finished his Collingwood career by the time Neville came to the club but he did get to play with his other brother Tony. Not picked for the opening two rounds of the 1984 season, Shaw made his debut against Essendon at Windy Hill and was a regular fixture for the rest of the year, with his only stint on the sidelines being because of a two-week suspension, for striking Hawthorn's Russell Shields. His 20 appearances in 1984 included three finals. Ray Shaw (Australian Footballer)
Ray Shaw (born 27 April 1954) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL). His younger brothers Tony and Neville as well as his two sons Heath and Rhyce also played for Collingwood. Shaw began his senior career at Preston in the Victorian Football Association (VFA), where he won a J. J. Liston Trophy in 1973 for the Best and Fairest player in the VFA first division. A Collingwood Best and Fairest Award winner, Shaw captained Collingwood to the 1979 Escort Cup Grand Final, where they defeated Hawthorn Football Club to win their first senior title since 1958. After a fallout with Collingwood officialdom in 1981, Shaw returned to Preston as captain-coach and led them to the 1983 and 1984 premierships. Tony Shaw (Australian Rules Footballer)
Anthony Shaw (born 23 July 1960) is a former Australian rules footballer, coach and media personality who played for the Collingwood Football Club. Playing career Collingwood Football Club Shaw was recruited to Collingwood from Reservoir-Lakeside to make his debut in 1977 alongside brother Ray. He was a small midfielder at 170 cm who didn't have the natural ability or quality skills of others but his courage and determination made him a fine rover. He did struggle in his early years to cement a senior position in the team. Shaw played in the 1980–1981 losing Grand Final sides. In 1984, Shaw won the Copeland Trophy as the Magpies best and fairest player for the season, as well as playing with second brother Neville. Timothy David Paine (born 8 December 1984) is an Australian cricketer and a former captain of the Australia national cricket team in Test cricket. A right-handed batsman and a wicket-keeper, he plays for the Tasmanian Tigers in Australian domestic cricket and was the captain of the Hobart Hurricanes before his selection for Australia in the 2017–18 Ashes series.
