Robert Pollack (biologist)
Robert Elliot Pollack is an American biologist whose interests cross many academic lines. He grew up in Brooklyn, attended public schools, and majored in physics at Columbia University, where he graduated from the College in 1961. He received a PhD in Biological Sciences from Brandeis University in 1966, and subsequently was a postdoctoral Fellow in Pathology with Howard Green at NYU Medical center, and at the Weizmann Institute in Israel with Ernest Winocour. He was then recruited to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory by James Watson to establish a research program on reversion of cancer cells. He became a tenured Associate Professor of Microbiology at the Stony Brook University Medical Center before returning to Columbia as a Professor of Biological Sciences in 1978. Robert (Rocky) L. Pollack was appointed to the Provincial Court of Manitoba on December 15, 2006. Judge Pollack began his legal career with the Manitoba Attorney General's department in 1972 and later worked as a Crown attorney until moving into private practice in 1976. Prior to his appointment to the bench, he was a partner in the Winnipeg law firm of Myers Weinberg LLP. Major-General Robert Valentine Pollok CB CBE DSO (1884–1979) was an Irish-born British Army officer who became General Officer Commanding Northern Ireland District. Military career After attending Eton and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Pollok was commissioned into the 15th Hussars in 1903. He was appointed Aide-de-Camp to the Lieutenant Governor of United Provinces in India in 1908 and Aide-de-Camp to the Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Australia in 1913.
