Robert Overend
Robert Overend (December 1930 – 25 June 2017) was a Northern Irish farmer, businessman and Unionist politician. He was also a deputy Grand Master of the Orange Order. Political career Overend was a prominent member of the Vanguard Unionist Progressive Party in the mid-1970s. In 1975, he proposed that the Order formed a new, united unionist party, but this was rejected. Magherafelt District Council
Magherafelt District Council was a district council in County Londonderry in Northern Ireland. It was merged with Cookstown District Council and Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council on 1 April 2015 under local government reorganisation in Northern Ireland becoming Mid-Ulster District Council. The council headquarters were in Magherafelt. The Council area stretched from Lough Neagh and the River Bann in the east into the Sperrin Mountains in the west and was divided by the Moyola River. It covered an area of and had a population of over 45,000. Local towns in the area included Bellaghy, birthplace of poet Seamus Heaney in 1939. The council was composed of 16 elected representatives. Sandra Overend
Sandra Overend (born 11 May 1973) is an Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) politician in Northern Ireland. She served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Mid-Ulster from 2011 to 2017. Background Overend was born near Stewartstown, County Tyrone and educated at Cookstown High School and the University of Ulster. She lives near Bellaghy, County Londonderry. She is married with three children; her father-in-law is former Vanguard politician Robert Overend. She worked in accountancy before taking up employment as office manager for her father Billy Armstrong MLA in 1998. Overend is the Ulster Unionist Party Women's Development Officer. The vanguard (also called the advance guard) is the leading part of an advancing military formation. It has a number of functions, including seeking out the enemy and securing ground in advance of the main force. Mid Ulster (, Ulster Scots: ''Mid Ulstèr'') is a constituency in the Northern Ireland Assembly. It was first used for a Northern Ireland-only election in 1973, which elected the then Northern Ireland Assembly. It usually shares boundaries with the Mid Ulster UK Parliament constituency. However, the boundaries of the two constituencies were slightly different from 1983 to 1986 (because the Assembly boundaries had not caught up with Parliamentary boundary changes) and from 1996 to 1997, when members of the Northern Ireland Forum had been elected from the newly drawn Parliamentary constituencies but the 51st Parliament of the United Kingdom, elected in 1992 under the 1983-95 constituency boundaries, was still in session.
