Robert Hunter Morris
Robert Hunter Morris ( – 27 January 1764), was a prominent governmental figure in Colonial Pennsylvania, serving as governor of Pennsylvania and Chief Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court. Early life and education Morris was born in 1700 in Trenton, New Jersey. He was the second son of Lewis Morris and Isabella ( née Graham) Morris and named after his father's friend the future colonial governor Robert Hunter. His older brother was Lewis Morris Jr. who served as a member and speaker of the New York General Assembly. His father was very prominent in public life and variously served as chief justice of New York and as the 8th Colonial Governor of New Jersey. His paternal grandparents were Sarah (née Pole) Morris and Richard Morris, who was originally from Monmouthshire, Wales. Robert Arthur John Morris (born 11 March 1913, date of death unknown), also known as Roy Morris, was an English professional footballer who played as a wing half in the Football League for Norwich City. Morris was signed to Norwich from Brentford in 1933. He had also appeared for non-League clubs Slough, Leyton and Southall. He made his Norwich debut in 1933, and remained with the Canaries until 1938, when he joined Southern League side Colchester United, where he would make 69 first team appearances until World War II. Robert Morris (born 4 October 1948) is an Australian former racing driver. Morris was one of the leading touring car drivers during the 1970s and continued racing until 1984. Morris won Australia's premier Touring car race, the Bathurst 1000 in 1976. He also won the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1979. Morris was inducted into the V8 Supercars Hall of Fame in 2004. The Robert Morris Colonials are the athletic teams for Robert Morris University, in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh. The Colonials compete in NCAA Division I ( FCS, formerly Division I-AA, in football). In 2020, the school joined the Horizon League as a full member after leaving the Northeast Conference. Several RMU sports that are not sponsored by the Horizon League play in other conferences. Robert Bruce Morris (November 3, 1902 – November 1986) was an American basketball head coach as well as former collegiate athlete. He served as the head coach for the Providence Steamrollers, a Basketball Association of America team, in 1946–47. Morris then guided Brown University's men's basketball team from 1947 to 1954. He accumulated a 28–32 record with Providence and overall 61–87 record with Brown. While at Brown, one of his players was future College Football Hall of Fame coach Joe Paterno, who earned two varsity letters. As an athlete, Morris lettered in football, baseball, and track at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania. He was a member of a Penn Relays-winning track team and was later inducted into the school's athletic hall of fame in 1987. Robbie Morris (born 20 February 1982 in Hertford, England) is a former rugby union player. His position of choice was as a prop, and he could play at tighthead or loosehead. Robert Samuel Morris (born January 18, 1975) is a former professional American football linebacker who spent his entire 8-year professional career for the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League.
