Robert Middleton (born Samuel G. Messer, May 13, 1911 – June 14, 1977) was an American film and television actor known for his large size, beetle-like brows, and a deep, booming voice (for which he was known as "Big Bob Middleton"), usually in the portrayal of ruthless villains. Early years A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Middleton was one of four children of a building contractor. He trained for a musical career at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Career Middleton's career in entertainment began with a job as an announcer on WLW radio in Cincinnati. He worked steadily as a radio announcer and actor. One of his early works was as the narrator of the educational film "Duck and Cover". Robert Myddelton (or Middleton) ( – 1616) was an Welsh politician who served as MP for Weymouth and Melcombe Regis and the City of London in the Parliament of England. Early life Myddelton was born at Denbigh Castle in Denbigh, Wales, of which his father was governor. He was the seventh son of Jane ( Dryhurst) Myddelton and Richard Myddelton (–1577/8) of Galch Hill, Henllan who was also MP for Denbigh Boroughs. Among his siblings were Sir Thomas Myddelton, a Lord Mayor of London, William Myddelton, a poet and seaman who died at Antwerp in 1621, and Sir Hugh Myddelton, 1st Baronet, a wealthy merchant and clothmaker who was appointed Royal Jeweller by King James VI and I. His paternal grandparents were Fulk Myddelton of Llansannan and Margaret ( Smith) Myddelton. His maternal grandparents were Hugh Dryhurst, alderman of Denbigh, and Lucy ( Grimsditch) Dryhurst. Weymouth And Melcombe Regis (UK Parliament Constituency)
Weymouth and Melcombe Regis was a parliamentary borough in Dorset represented in the English House of Commons, later in that of Great Britain, and finally in the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It was formed by an Act of Parliament of 1570 which amalgamated the existing boroughs of Weymouth and Melcombe Regis. Until 1832, the combined borough continued to elect the four Members of Parliament (MPs) to which its constituent parts had previously been entitled; the Great Reform Act reduced its representation to two Members, and the constituency was abolished altogether in 1885, becoming part of the new South Dorset constituency. Robert Myddleton (1678–1733), of Chirk Castle, Denbighshire, was a British lawyer and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1722 to 1733. Early life Myddleton was baptized on 14 June 1678, the eldest surviving son of Richard Myddelton of Shrewsbury and Crutched Friars, London. He matriculated at Brasenose College, Oxford on 14 December 1694 and was admitted at Middle Temple in 1695. In 1700 he succeeded to the estates of his father and in 1702, he was called to the bar. He married Ann Reade, daughter of Sir James Reade, 2nd Baronet, of Brocket Hall, Hertfordshire on 5 May 1720. He succeeded his cousin, Sir William Myddelton, 4th Baronet, to Chirk Castle on 5 January1718. Career Myddleton was Recorder of, Shrewsbury in 1710. When his uncle Sir Richard Myddelton, Bt died in 1716, he stood for Denbighshire on the Chirk Castle interest at the ensuing by-election on 30 June 1716, but was defeated by Watkin Williams. Denbigh District of Boroughs (variously referred to as Denbigh District, Denbigh Boroughs or just Denbigh) was a parliamentary constituency centred on the town of Denbigh in Wales. John Middleton, 1st Earl of Middleton ( – 3 July 1674) was a professional soldier and mercenary from Kincardineshire in Scotland. Beginning his career in the Thirty Years War, during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms he fought for the Covenanters and Parliamentarians until 1648, when he switched sides to the Royalists. One of his colleagues in the 1639 to 1640 Bishops' Wars was Montrose, who later became a Royalist. Despite their similar backgrounds and views, Middleton pursued him with considerable vigour, reportedly because his father died when Montrose's men set fire to his house. Middleton supported the Royalists in the Second and Third English Civil Wars and took part in the unsuccessful 1654 Glencairn's rising. Robert Tweedie Middleton
Robert Tweedie Middleton (5 December 1831 – 9 December 1891) was a Scottish Liberal politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1880 to 1885. Middleton was the son of James Middleton of Glasgow and his wife Mary Tweedie, daughter of Robert Tweedie. He was a merchant in Glasgow and a J.P. for Lanarkshire and Dumbarton. Middleton put himself forward as a parliamentary candidate at Glasgow in 1879 but withdrew to prevent a party division. At the 1880 general election he was elected Member of Parliament for Glasgow. He held the seat until 1885. Middleton died at the age of 60 and is buried in Glasgow Necropolis The Glasgow Necropolis is a Victorian cemetery in Glasgow, Scotland.
