Robert McWhorter
Robert Ligon McWhorter (June 19, 1819 – May 20, 1908) was an American planter and politician who served in the Georgia House of Representatives as a Democrat from 1847 to 1861, and then switched to serving as a Republican in both houses of the Georgia General Assembly from 1868 to 1884. He was the first Republican to hold the seat of Speaker of the Georgia House. Early years McWhorter was born in the community of Bowling Green, in Oglethorpe County, Georgia, the youngest of three sons born to Hugh McWhorter and Helena Ligon. His family owned a forty-acre homestead. After studying at Mercer University, McWhorter worked as a planter in Greene County and was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 1847, in which he served until the Civil War began in 1861. Abram Colby
Abram Colby was an American minister and politician who served in the Georgia House of Representatives during the Reconstruction era. A lieutenant governor, lieutenant-governor, or vice governor is a high officer of state, whose precise role and rank vary by jurisdiction. Often a lieutenant governor is the deputy, or lieutenant, to or ranked under a governor — a "second-in-command", rather like deputy governor. In Canadian provinces and in the Dutch Caribbean, the lieutenant governor is the representative of the monarch in that jurisdiction, and thus outranks the head of government but for practical purposes has virtually no power. In India, lieutenant governors are in charge of special administrative divisions in that country. Hamilton McWhorter
Commander Hamilton McWhorter III (February 8, 1921April 12, 2008) was a United States Navy aviator and a flying ace of World War II, credited with shooting down twelve Japanese aircraft. He was the first Hellcat ace, first USN carrier-based double ace, and the first Grumman F6F Hellcat pilot to achieve double ace status. He flew 89 combat missions during World War II while flying with the VF-9 and VF-12 units. On May 23, 2014, he was also posthumously awarded the American Fighter Aces Congressional Gold Medal, when the United States Congress collectively awarded the gold medal to all flying aces: a navy pilot is depicted on the medal in the upper right. The Georgia State Senate is the upper house of the Georgia General Assembly, in the U.S. state of Georgia. Legal provisions The Georgia State Senate is the upper house of the Georgia General Assembly, with the lower house being the Georgia House of Representatives.
