Poets' Prize
The Poets' Prize is awarded annually for the best book of verse published by a living American poet two years prior to the award year. The $3000 annual prize is donated by a committee of about 20 American poets, who each nominate two books and who also serve as judges. The Nicholas Roerich Museum in New York City hosts the annual awards reception in May, which includes readings by the winner and finalists. The founders of the prize were Robert McDowell, Frederick Morgan, and Louis Simpson. The current co-chairs of the prize committee are Robert Archambeau and Marc Vincenz. ''The Reaper'' was a United States literary periodical which played an important role in establishing the poetry movements of New Narrative and New Formalism. It was founded in 1980 and ran until 1989; a double issue of numbers 19 and 20 was the last. ''The Reaper'' was founded and edited by Robert McDowell and Mark Jarman. It was started at Indiana State University. For the earlier issues the art director was Michael K. Aakhus; for later issues Thomas Wilhelmus served as fiction editor. ''Zenith'' is a British superhero, who appeared in the British science fiction comic '' 2000 AD''. Created by writer Grant Morrison and artist Steve Yeowell, with original character designs by Brendan McCarthy, the story first appeared in ''2000 AD'' #535 (22 August 1987). Zenith himself (real name Robert McDowell) did not appear until the second episode – the first episode set the backdrop for his introduction. Shallow and sarcastic, Zenith was a distinctly Generation X superhero. Morrison used the ''Zenith'' serial to explore cultural differences between generations and criticise the Conservative Party. ''Zenith'' was featured regularly in ''2000 AD'' from 1987 until 1992, with occasional appearances since. The series was an early success for Morrison, who has since written popular works for DC and Marvel, using their own characters. Robert Murray McDowall (21 November 1821 – 5 November 1894), was a Scottish-born Australian cricketer who played two first-class cricket matches for Tasmania. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. He has the distinction of having played in the first ever first-class cricket match in Australia. When McDowall bowled Duncan Cooper for 4 in Victoria's first innings, he took the first-ever first-class wicket claimed in Australia. McDowall went on to take 5/27 in the first innings, making him the first man to take a 5 wicket haul in Australian first class cricket history. Bob McDowall
Robert (Bob) Montgomery McDowall (15 September 1939 – 20 February 2011) was one of New Zealand's most prominent freshwater ichthyologists. Biography McDowall was born on 15 September 1939, the son of dairy scientist Frederick Henry McDowall and entomologist Grace Edith Wall. He attended Palmerston North Boys' High School and went on to study for a BSc at Victoria University in 1958. Despite only receiving a C pass in Zoology, he was accepted into the graduate program where he completed an MSc thesis on the biology of the redfin bully. In 1963 he joined the Fisheries Division of the Marine Department of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. At that time, the main laboratories of the Marine Department were housed on the ground floor of the old Wellington City morgue - which McDowall described as an "unhappy and "exceedingly primitive' place with inadequate power and heating. Robert McDowell McCracken
Robert McDowell McCracken (March 15, 1874 – May 16, 1934) was a United States Representative from Idaho. McCracken served one term as a Republican in the House, from 1915 to 1917. Born in Vincennes, Indiana, McCracken was elected in 1914 as one of two at-large members from Idaho, representing the entire state alongside Addison T. Smith. In 1916 he was defeated for reelection in the Republican primary by former congressman Burton L. French. While campaigning for a return to Congress in 1934, McCracken died in an automobile accident near Emmett. His vehicle went through a guard rail and tumbled down Freezeout Hill.
