Robert M. Ricketts
Dr. Robert M. Ricketts (May 5, 1920 - June 17, 2003) was an American orthodontist known for many contributions in the field of orthodontics. Most important contributions were related to his development of Ricketts' Cephalometric Analysis and an .018-inch slot in an orthodontic bracket. His research focused on the growth and structural variation of the face and jaws. Life Ricketts was born in Kokomo, Indiana into a poor family. In his early childhood years, his family's farming business was devastated by the Great Depression of the 1920s. After high school, he worked as a laborer in a steel mill factory and a radio factory for one year. He obtained his dental degree from Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1945. He then joined the U.S. Navy as a dentist for two years and eventually went to the University of Illinois to study orthodontics under Dr. Allan G. Brodie. He obtained his master's degree in 1947. Kokomo, Indiana
Kokomo ( ) is a city in Indiana and the county seat of Howard County, Indiana, United States. It is the principal city of the Kokomo, Indiana Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Howard County, the Kokomo-Peru CSA, which includes Howard and Miami counties, as well as the North Central Indiana region consisting of six counties anchored by the city of Kokomo. Orthodontics is a dentistry specialty that addresses the diagnosis, prevention, management, and correction of mal-positioned teeth and jaws, and misaligned bite patterns. Anchorage in orthodontics is defined as a way of resisting movement of a tooth or number of teeth by using different techniques. Anchorage is an important consideration in the field of orthodontics as this is a concept that is used frequently when correcting malocclusions. Unplanned or unwanted tooth movement can have dire consequences in a treatment plan, and therefore using anchorage stop a certain tooth movement becomes important. John Mershon
John Valentine Mershon (July 7, 1867 – 1953) was an American orthodontist who graduated from Angle School of Orthodontia in 1908. He is the past president of American Association of Orthodontists. Mershon helped organize First International Orthodontic Congress in 1926 and served as its honorary president. Life Mershon was born in Penn Manor District in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in 1867, the youngest sibling of nine. He obtained his dental degree from Pennsylvania College of Dental Surgery in 1889. He served as a faculty member at the school for many years, and also practiced as a private dentist in the area. In 1896, he married Harriet Lane Worrall. He then attended Angle School of Orthodontia in 1908 and then became one of the first orthodontists in eastern Pennsylvania. History The organization was first established as ''the American Board of Orthodontia'' in 1929 and later changed its name to the American Board of Orthodontics in 1938. Morgan Lewis, known as Morganics, is a Cairns based hip hop performer. Morganics started performing in Sydney in 1984 and was a member of Metabass'n'Breath who toured in Australia and America. Morganics works around Australia on community educational hip-hop projects such as 1999's Desert Rap with Brothablack and Monkey Mark from South West Syndicate, organised with Tony Collins from Triple J. ABC TV made a documentary on Desert Rap. Another hip-hop program Morganics participated in was in Wilcania in 2002 where he recorded a group of local boys called The Wilcannia Mob.
