Robert L. Karnes
Robert Lee Karnes is an American politician born in and representing West Virginia. He is known for controversial, conservative rhetoric. He is a Republican member of the West Virginia Senate, representing the 11th district from January 14, 2015 until 2019 and from November 30, 2020 to current date. Karnes initially took office after defeating Incumbent Democrat Senator Greg Tucker in 2014. This was the first election cycle in which West Virginian Republicans gained control in either the state House or Senate in over 80 years. West Virginia's 11th Senate District
West Virginia's 11th Senate district is one of 17 districts in the West Virginia Senate. It is currently represented by Republicans Bill Hamilton and Robert Karnes. All districts in the West Virginia Senate elect two members to staggered four-year terms. Geography District 11 covers all of Nicholas, Pendleton, Pocahontas, Randolph, Upshur, and Webster Counties, as well as some of southern Grant County, in the eastern part of the state. Communities within the district include Richwood, Summersville, Craigsville, Webster Springs, Marlinton, Buckhannon, Elkins, Franklin, and Petersburg. The district overlaps with the state's 1st, 2nd, and 3rd congressional districts, and with the 32nd, 41st, 43rd, 44th, 45th, 46th, 54th, and 55th districts of the West Virginia House of Delegates. Dana Lee Lynch (born March 26, 1949) is an American politician and a Democratic member of the West Virginia House of Delegates representing District 44 from January 12, 2013 to January 9, 2019. He was defeated on November 8, 2018 by 19-year-old Caleb Hanna. The 2018–2019 education workers' strikes in the United States began on February 22, 2018, after local activists compelled the West Virginia state leadership of the West Virginia branches of the American Federation of Teachers and the National Education Association into holding a strike vote. The strike—which ended when teachers returned to their classrooms on March 7—inspired similar, statewide strikes in Oklahoma and Arizona. Gregory Alan Tucker (born August 3, 1957) is an American politician and a former Democratic member of the West Virginia Senate, having represented the 11th district from 2010 to 2014. The West Virginia Senate is the upper house of the West Virginia Legislature. There are seventeen senatorial districts. Each district has two senators who serve staggered four-year terms.
