Robert King (Australian Politician, Born 1920)
Robert Shannon King (22 March 1920 – 30 June 1991) was an Australian politician. Born in Warracknabeal, Victoria, he attended Carey Baptist Grammar School in Melbourne before serving in the military 1940–45. He returned to Warracknabeal as a farmer and grazier, and became an official of the Victorian National Party of Australia, Country Party. In 1958, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Country Party member for Division of Wimmera, Wimmera. On 5 October 1971 he was appointed Assistant Minister assisting the Minister for Primary Industry, holding that this position until the William McMahon, McMahon Government's defeat on 5 December 1972. King's seat of Wimmera was abolished in 1977, and he retired from parliament. However his political activity continued, and he was campaign manager for Victorian State MP Bill McGrath in the 1979, 1982, 1985 and 1988 State elections. King died in 1991. Division Of Wimmera
The Division of Wimmera was an Australian electoral division in the state of Victoria. It was named after the Wimmera region in which it was located. It originally encompassed the towns of Mildura, Swan Hill and Warracknabeal, but by the time it was abolished in 1977, it had drifted south and grown smaller to only include Ararat, Horsham Horsham is a market town on the upper reaches of the River Arun on the fringe of the Weald in West Sussex, England. The division was proclaimed in 1900, and was one of the original 65 divisions to be contested at the first federal election. It was abolished at the redistribution of 31 October 1977.
