Robert Pitt Jenkins (26 January 1814 – 26 October 1859) was an Australian politician. He was born in New South Wales to merchant Robert Jenkins and Jemima Pitt. He was a pastoralist who owned land at Bombala and on the Murrumbidgee River. On 10 November 1843 he married Louisa Adelaide Plunkett. He was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council from 1856 until 1859, when he died at sea near Wales. For a period he lived in New Zealand. Robert Jenkins (1730s-40s in Llanelli, Wales – fl.) was a Welsh master mariner, famous as the protagonist of the "Jenkins's ear" incident, which became a contributory cause of the War of Jenkins' Ear between the Kingdom of Great Britain and the Kingdom of Spain in 1739. Returning home from a trading voyage in the West Indies in command of the smuggling brig ''Rebecca'' in April 1731, Jenkins' ship was stopped and boarded by the Spanish guarda-costa or privateer ''La Isabela'' on suspicion of smuggling. According to some accounts, her commander, Juan de León Fandiño, had Jenkins bound to a mast, then sliced off his left ear with his sword and allegedly told him to say to his King "the same will happen to him (the king) if caught doing the same". Robert Jenkins (July 10, 1769April 18, 1848) was a member of the United States House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. Biography Early life Robert Jenkins was born at Windsor Forge Mansion in Caernarvon Township in the Province of Pennsylvania. He attended the common schools and the select school of Dr. Robert Smith of Pequea. He was an ironmaster in Caernarvon Township, and a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1804 and 1805. Career He was elected as a Federalist to the Tenth and Eleventh Congresses. Robert Christmas Dewar Jenkins (29 September 1900 – 25 June 1978) was a British Conservative Party politician, and a Member of Parliament for 13 years. The son of J Hamilton Jenkins, he was educated at Latymer Upper School. During the First World War he served in the Inns of Court Officers' Training Corps and the King's Royal Rifle Corps. In 1927 he was elected to Kensington Borough Council, remaining a member of the council until its abolition in 1965. He was mayor of Kensington from 1939–45 and leader of the Conservative group of the council from 1945–53, being appointed an alderman in 1947. When the successor Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea was formed in 1964, he was appointed an honorary alderman. He was appointed a justice of the peace for the County of London in 1946. Robert Thomas Jenkins CBE (31 August 1881 – 11 November 1969) was a Welsh historian and academic. Life Jenkins was born on 31 August 1881 in Liverpool. He moved with his family to Bangor, Gwynedd, when his father was appointed clerk to the registrar of the newly established University College of North Wales. However, both of his parents had died by 1888 and he was then brought up by his maternal grandparents in Bala, Gwynedd. He was baptised by Thomas Charles Edwards and studied at Bala Grammar School before winning a scholarship to the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, obtaining a first-class degree in English in 1901. He then studied history and English at Trinity College, Cambridge before teaching in Llandysul (1904), in Brecon (1904 to 1917) and at the City of Cardiff High School for Boys (1917 to 1930). Robert F. Jenkins (September 4, 1947 – August 9, 2021) was an American television and radio sports announcer, primarily calling Indy car and NASCAR telecasts for ESPN/ABC and later Versus/NBCSN. Jenkins was the radio "Voice of the Indianapolis 500" on the IMS Radio Network from 1990 to 1998, then held the same role on ABC Sports television from 1999 to 2001. His last position was the lead commentator for NBCSN coverage of the IndyCar Series. He retired from broadcasting after the 2012 IndyCar season finale to care for his wife Pam who was battling brain cancer. After his wife's death that offseason, Jenkins came out of retirement for occasional reserve roles on television, radio, and public address primarily at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
