Robert A. James (1909-1983) was an American businessman, the founder of Raymond James Financial, an S&P 500-listed financial services company. Career James founded Raymond James Financial in St. Petersburg, Florida in 1962, as Robert A. James Investments. In 1964, Raymond and Associates merged into Robert A. James Investments to form Raymond James & Associates. In 1970, he stepped down as CEO, and his son, Thomas James Thomas James (c. 1573 – August 1629) was an English librarian and Anglican clergyman, the first librarian of the Bodleian Library, Oxford. Thomas James (born 1942 – 1943) is an American billionaire businessman, the chairman of Raymond James Financial, founded by his father Robert James, for 40 years. As of March 2022, his net worth was estimated at US$2.3 billion. Early life James has a bachelor's degree from Harvard University, an MBA from Harvard Business School, and a JD degree from Stetson University. Career James was made a board member of Raymond James Financial at the age of 20, and became CEO of the company in 1969 when he was 27 years old. In 2010, James stepped down as CEO.
