Robert H. MacQuarrie
Robert Hector MacQuarrie (January 10, 1935 – October 20, 2021) was a politician and teacher from Northwest Territories, Canada. Political career MacQuarrie was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Northwest Territories in the 1979 Northwest Territories general election. He served as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly for one year. He resigned from his post as speaker because he wanted to participate in debates in the Legislature. Edson, Alberta
Edson is a town in west-central Alberta, Canada. It is located in Yellowhead County, west of Edmonton along the Yellowhead Highway and east of the intersection with Highway 47. History The town was founded as Heatherwood, but the name was changed around 1911 in honour of Edson Joseph Chamberlin, vice-president of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway. When Edson was declared the local rail centre, smaller communities such as Rosevear (abandoned), Wolf Creek, Carrot Creek and Niton Junction fell into a decline that continues today. In the 1950s, upgrading of Highway 16 caused a dramatic increase in private, commercial and industrial traffic. Today, the Yellowhead Highway carries some of the heaviest traffic flow in Alberta and has been declared the second Trans-Canada Highway. The 1979 Northwest Territories general election was held on October 1, 1979. Twenty-two members were elected to the Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly. In 1980, George Braden was named "Government Leader", the first democratic leader of the Northwest Territories since Frederick Haultain in 1905 and the first of its modern boundaries.
