Robert Gibson, Lord Gibson
The Hon Robert Gibson, Lord Gibson FRSE (20 April 1886 – 9 April 1965) was a Scottish lawyer and politician. He was Member of Parliament (MP) for Greenock from 1936 to 1941, and Chairman of the Scottish Land Court from 1941 to 1965. Early life He was born in Hamilton the son of Robert Gibson. Gibson was educated at both the Hamilton Academy prep and senior schools and continued his studies at the University of Glasgow, where he was Cunninghame Gold Medallist in Mathematics, Donaldson Scholar in Chemistry, Major Young Bursar in Arts and Law, Metcalfe Bursar in Science, and Stewart Bursar and Prizeman in Law. He received degrees of M.A., B.Sc. and LL.B., all at the University of Glasgow. He was elected Secretary of the Glasgow University Students' Representative Council in 1909, and President in 1910. Robert Gibson (Ontario Politician)
Robert Wayne Gibson (November 14, 1932 – March 26, 1966) was a politician in Ontario, Canada. He was a Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1962 to 1963 who represented the northwestern riding of Kenora. From 1963 to 1966 he sat as a Liberal-Labour member. He died in office after a short illness from an infection of the pancreas. Background He was born in Kenora in 1932. He spent his education at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario and later went to Osgoode Hall in Toronto. He returned to Kenora where he worked as a lawyer. Offices Gibson ran as a Liberal candidate in the northern Ontario riding of Kenora which was called after the death of long-serving Liberal-Labour member Albert Wren. Robert McKay Gibson (born 10 October 1945) is a Scottish National Party (SNP) politician. He was a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) from 2003 until 2016, first as a Highlands and Islands regional member from 2003 until 2011, then representing the Caithness, Sutherland and Ross constituency from 2011 until 2016. Early life Gibson was born in Glasgow on 10 October 1945. He was educated at the University of Dundee, where he headed the SNP student wing, the Federation of Student Nationalists. Robert Murray Gibson (August 20, 1869 – December 19, 1949) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. Prior to his legal career, he briefly played professional baseball for the Chicago Colts and Pittsburgh Alleghenys. Early life and education Born in Duncansville, Pennsylvania, Gibson received an Artium Baccalaureus degree from Washington & Jefferson College in 1889. Baseball career After graduating from college, Gibson joined Cap Anson's Chicago Colts as a pitcher, making his big league debut on June 4, 1890 at the age of twenty. The 6'3", 185-pound right-hander pitched only one game for the Colts, a complete game win, before moving to the Pittsburgh Alleghenys, where he lost all three of his starts. Robert Atkinson Gibson (July 9, 1846 – February 17, 1919) was the sixth Episcopal bishop of Virginia. Biography Early life Robert Atkinson Gibson was born in Petersburg, Virginia to the founder and long-time rector of Grace Church, Rev. Churchill Gibson (1819–1895) and his wife Lucy Fitzhugh Atkinson Gibson. His formal education began at Episcopal High School at Alexandria, Virginia, from where he transferred to Mount Laurel Academy; he then attended Hampden–Sydney College near Farmville. However, he interrupted his studies in 1864 to volunteer with Virginia's First Rockbridge Artillery, not returning to Hampden–Sydney until after the Confederacy surrendered at Appomattox in 1865. Upon graduating in 1867, Gibson enrolled at the Virginia Theological Seminary, from which he graduated in 1870 and was ordained as a deacon on July 24 by Bishop Whittle. Robert Gibson (born Ruben Gibson, July 19, 1958) is an American professional wrestler. He is best known as one half of the tag team known as The Rock 'n' Roll Express, with Ricky Morton. He has competed in singles competition also, and has won various singles championships throughout his career. This is a complete list, in alphabetical order, of cricketers who played for Nottingham Cricket Club in first-class cricket matches. Nottingham played a total of 15 first-class matches, 13 of them between 1826 and 1834 and two in 1848 after the establishment of Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club in 1841. Teams played under the Nottinghamshire name from 1829 onwards and many of the players listed also played for Nottinghamshire teams. Sir Robert Gibson GBE (4 November 1863 – 1 January 1934) was a Scottish-born Australian businessman, a president of the Associated Chambers of Manufactures of Australia. Early life Gibson was born at Falkirk, Scotland, the third son of John Edward Gibson, metal manufacturer, and his wife Harriette, ''née'' Hicks. Gibson was educated at Falkirk High School and joined the Camelon Iron Company, of which his father was managing director, at 15 years of age. In 1883 he was apprenticed to Robert Gardner and Company, Glasgow, and studied art and design at the Haldane academy. Career In 1887 Gibson rejoined the Camelon Iron Company as a designer, and was soon appointed manager of its London office. Gibson married Winifred Moore of Glasgow on 22 March 1890, and sailed to Australia the same day, following two brothers. He was a designer and draughtsman for about six years at Melbourne.
