Robert Furolo
Robert Anthony Furolo (born 27 July 1969) is an Australian politician. He was a Labor Party member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 2008 to 2015, representing the electorate of Lakemba. Furolo was born in Sydney, and grew up in its outer western suburbs. He worked in the transport industry after leaving school, working as a McDonald's manager for a period, before returning to university to study economics and industrial relations. He was appointed as an advisor to his local MLA, member for Hurstville and future Premier Morris Iemma in 1994. He worked for Iemma for nine years, remaining on his staff after his appointment as a minister in 1999, before leaving to work as a public relations consultant in 2003. Electoral District Of Lakemba
Lakemba is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales, located in the South-Western suburbs of Sydney. It has been held by the Labor Party since its creation in 1927. It was represented by Morris Iemma, who was Premier of New South Wales from 3 August 2005 until his resignation on 5 September 2008. It has been held by Jihad Dib since the 2015 election. Lakemba includes the suburbs of Chullora, Greenacre, Lakemba, Mount Lewis, Punchbowl, Wiley Park and parts of Bankstown, Belmore, Beverly Hills, Narwee, Riverwood and Roselands. Kayee Griffin
Kayee Frances Griffin (born 6 February 1950) is an Australian politician and former Labor Party member of the New South Wales Legislative Council, serving from 2003 until her retirement in 2011. Griffin was born in Sydney to parents Matt and Kathleen Griffin. She grew up in the City of Canterbury. After leaving school, she was employed with the Department of Labour and Industry and the New South Wales Treasury between 1967 and 1979. She became a member of the Municipal Employees Union (MEU) in 1981 and an organiser in 1987, continuing in that role until 1996. In 1979 she became an electoral advisor for Federal MP Leo McLeay. In 1981 she became the Secretary for the Mayor of Canterbury, before returning to her earlier role with McLeay in 1997. She joined the Labor Party in 1973 and was a member of the Lakemba Branch, becoming Secretary in 1979. Brian Robson (mayor)
Brian Robson (born c. 1946) is notable for having mailed himself in a crate from Melbourne, Australia to Los Angeles, California in the late 1960s. Travel In 1965, Robson was in Australia and didn't have sufficient funds to travel back home to Cardiff, Wales. Inspired by the story of Reg Spiers, an Olympic javelin thrower who had performed a similar feat, Robson had his friends seal him in a crate that measured 36 × 30 × 38 inches and send him by post back to London. Supplies in the crate included: a hammer, a suitcase, a pillow, a litre of water, a flashlight, a book of Beatles songs, and an empty bottle. Robson spent 92 hours in the crate before officials intercepted him in Los Angeles, USA. The City of Canterbury was a local government area in the southwest region of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Morris Iemma
Morris Iemma (; born 21 July 1961) is a former Australian politician who was the 40th Premier of New South Wales. He served from 3 August 2005 to 5 September 2008. From Sydney, Iemma attended the University of Sydney and the University of Technology, Sydney. A member of the Labor Party, he was first elected to the Parliament of New South Wales at the 1991 state election, having previously worked as a trade union official. From 1999, Iemma was a minister in the third and fourth ministries led by Bob Carr. He replaced Carr as premier and Leader of the New South Wales Labor Party in 2005, following Carr's resignation. Iemma led Labor to victory at the 2007 state election, albeit with a slightly reduced majority.
