Robert Finch (American Politician)
Robert Hutchinson Finch (October 9, 1925 – October 10, 1995) was a Republican politician from La Canada Flintridge, California. In 1967, he served as the 38th Lieutenant Governor of California. Following Richard Nixon's presidential campaign in 1968, he was appointed Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare in 1969. He was the Counselor to the President from 1970 until 1972. During the 1976 California United States Senate election, he lost in the Republican primary to S.I. Hayakawa. Early life and education Finch was born in Tempe, Arizona. He was the son of Robert L. Finch, a member of the Arizona House of Representatives, and his wife, Gladys Hutchinson. Finch was enlisted in the Marine Corps during World War II. Robert Finch (antiquarian)
Robert Finch (27 December 1783 – 16 September 1830) was an English antiquary. He lived in Italy for many years, where he was on the periphery of the Shelley circle and was a friend and patron to a number of British expatriate artists. He left his library, pictures, coins, and medals to the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. Biography Robert Finch was born in London on 27 December 1783, the only son of Thomas Finch (d. 1810), FRS. He was educated for a short time at St. Paul's School, and at eighteen was admitted to Balliol College, Oxford. He graduated with a B.A. in 1806, and was awarded his M.A. in 1809. He was ordained in 1807, and officiated at Maidstone and elsewhere. In 1814 Finch went abroad, visiting Portugal, France, Switzerland, Italy, Greece, and the Holy Land. Sir Robert Gerard Finch (20 August 1944 – 31 March 2016) was a British businessman, lawyer, and Lord Mayor of London from 23 July 2003 to 22 July 2004. Born in British India, Finch was educated at Felsted School and the College of Law. He joined Linklaters in 1969, progressed to Partner in 1974, and Head of Real Estate from 1997 to 1999. Linklaters' most Senior Partner, he left the firm on 1 July 2005 to become Chairman of property developer Liberty International, overseeing its transition to a REIT when the status was first introduced. He was Alderman for the City Ward of Coleman Street, having first been elected to represent Coleman Street in 1992. Robert Finch (born 1943) is an American author, essayist, and radio commentator. Biography He was born in New Jersey and grew up in West Virginia. He has lived in Cape Cod since 1971 and has written several books about the nature, natural and human histories of Cape Cod. His first book, ''Common Ground: A Naturalist's Cape Cod'' (1981), was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for non-fiction in 1982. Robert Finch has served as publications director for the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History and as a staff member of the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference at Middlebury College. His radio show with the National Public Radio member station WGBH, titled "A Cape Cod Notebook", won the 2006 "New England Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Radio Writing." Robert Poole Finch (1724-1803) was an English divine. Life Finch was the son of the Rev. Richard Finch. He was born at Greenwich 3 March 1723–4, entered Merchant Taylors' School in 1736, and was admitted a member of Peterhouse, Cambridge, whence he graduated B.A. in 1743, M.A. in 1747 and D.D. in 1772. He was ordained as a deacon in 1744, and appointed a curate at Greenwich in 1748. On becoming a priest he was chosen to be chaplain of Guy's Hospital, a position he held for 37 years. In 1755 he was appointed to the lectureship of St Bartholomew-by-the-Exchange, which he continued to hold to the time of his death. He was a preacher of some eminence. He published numerous sermons, and, in 1788, a treatise entitled ''Considerations upon the Use and Abuse of Oaths judicially taken'', which passed through many editions and became a standard work among the publications of the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge. Robert Finch (April 14, 1930- August 9, 2016) was an American yacht designer who created 18 sailboat designs during the 1970s including the Catalina 27 (with Frank Butler), the Dawson 26 and the Parker Dawson 26. Early life On April 4, 1930, Robert Joseph Finch was born in Houston, Texas to Margaret and Robert Arnold Finch; he grew up in Los Angeles, California. In 1947, he convinced sailors on a Dagmar Salen M/S (a Merchant Marine ship) that was traveling to China to become a deckhand for the summer. In 1950, he married Carol whom he met in high school and went on to have five children in Torrance, California. Robert 'Bob' Finch was Head of Coal Trading at leading energy trading company The Vitol Group until June 2015. He was born in the London suburb of Kingston-upon-Thames in 1954 as the son of an RAF fighter pilot. After leaving school at the age of 17, Finch started working as entry level junior at Petrofina.
