Robert E. Lee Elementary School (Columbia, Missouri)
The Columbia Public School District is located in Columbia, Boone County, Missouri. The district is Accredited with Distinction by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. 19,052 students are enrolled as of 2020. The district has four high schools, seven middle schools, and twenty-one elementary schools. The district also has a career center, preschool, gifted education school, and special education school. The current Superintendent, Brian Yearwood, started with the district on July 1st, 2021. Prior to 2013, there were three middle schools for grades 6-7 and three junior high schools for grades 8–9. With the opening of Battle High School, 9th grade was able to move to high school and all six schools became middle schools for grades 6–8. Boone County is located in the U.S. state of Missouri. Centrally located in Mid-Missouri, its county seat is Columbia, Missouri's fourth-largest city and location of the University of Missouri. Rock Bridge High School is a public high school located in southern Columbia, Missouri, United States. The school serves grades 9 through 12 and is one of four High Schools in Columbia Public Schools. It is located next to the Columbia Area Career Center. The mascot is the Bruin Bear. History Due to the crowding of David H. Hickman High School towards the end of the 1960s and the increasing population of Columbia in the 1970s, the Columbia Board of Education decided to form a new high school. The board bought of land in the southern portion of the city and started the construction of the new high school. The name "Rock Bridge" was chosen because of the school's proximity to the natural rock bridge at Rock Bridge Memorial State Park.
