Robert Dibble (politician)
Robert Dibble (15 November 1882 – 1963) was an English rugby union international who represented England from 1906 to 1912. He also captained the side in 1909 and 1912. Early life Robert Dibble was born in 1882 in Bridgwater. His father was Robert Dibble (1848–1938) his mother Fanny Boon (1848–1930). Despite being illiterate, his father rose to be the respected manager of the local brickworks. Rugby union career Dibble played as a forward for the Bridgwater RFC rugby club and made his international debut for England against Scotland on 17 March 1906 at Inverleith. Bridgwater is a large historic market town and civil parish in Somerset, England. Its population currently stands at around 41,276 as of 2022. Bridgwater is at the edge of the Somerset Levels, in level and well-wooded country. Admiral Sir George Hamilton D'Oyly Lyon, KCB (3 October 1883 – 19 August 1947) was a distinguished Royal Navy officer as well as an English sportsman who played first-class cricket and represented the England national rugby union team. Norman Wodehouse
Vice Admiral Norman Atherton Wodehouse (18 May 1887 – 4 July 1941) was a Royal Navy officer killed in the Second World War. He had gained 14 caps for England at rugby union, including six as captain between 1910 and 1913. Wodehouse was acting as a convoy commodore when his ship was sunk by a German U-boat. Naval career Wodehouse joined the Royal Navy in 1902, serving as a midshipman in the Atlantic Fleet in 1904. During the First World War Wodehouse served in the battleship at the Battle of Jutland as a gunnery officer. After the war he was appointed aide-de-camp to King George VI and appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath. He commanded Royal Naval College, Dartmouth from 1931 to 1934. Just before the outbreak of the Second World War Wodehouse became Rear Admiral, Gibraltar, a post he held until November 1939. Anthony Henniker-Gotley (2 March 1887 – 4 May 1972) was a rugby union international who represented England from 1910 to 1911. He also captained that country. Early life Anthony Henniker-Gotley was born on 2 March 1887 in Tysoe, Warwickshire. He was the son of a vicar, the Revd George Henniker Gotley MA. Rugby union career Henniker-Gotley played as a scrum half for his school, Tonbridge School. At his previous school, West Downs School, Winchester a boarding school for boys aged between eight and thirteen, he had been an avid cricketer, playing in the first XI in 1899 to 1901. After Tonbridge he went up to the University of Oxford and there received his Blue in 1909.
