Robert Dewley
Robert Charles Dewley (25 November 1913 – 23 May 1996) was an Australian politician. He was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1947 until 1953. He was a member of the Liberal Party of Australia (New South Wales Division), Liberal Party. Dewley was born in Rose Bay, New South Wales with the birth surname of Lambourne. He was the son of an insurance inspector and was educated at Randwick Boys High School . Dewley initially worked as a butcher in Rozelle, New South Wales but in 1947 he started a car dealership in Stanmore, New South Wales. He was an alderman on City of Canada Bay, Drummoyne Municipal Council from 1943–44 and 1955–59. Rose Bay, New South Wales
Rose Bay is a harbourside, eastern suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Rose Bay is located seven kilometres east of the Sydney central business district, in the local government areas of Waverley Council (east of Old South Head Road) and Municipality of Woollahra (on its western side towards the bay). Geography Rose Bay has views of both the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge together. Lyne Park abuts Sydney Harbour on its west. Roy Jackson (politician)
Roy Stanley Jackson (1895–1964) was an Australian politician and a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for a single term between 1953 and 1956. He was a member of the Labor Party (ALP). Jackson was born in Balmain, New South Wales and was the son of a trade union organizer. He was educated to elementary level in state schools and initially worked as a shipwright. During World War One he served with the First Australian Imperial Force in the Middle East and France. He joined the Federated Shipwrights and Ship Constructors' Association of Australia and became a full-time official with the union after 1934. He was also a member of the executive committee of the Australian Council of Trade Unions. Jackson was elected to parliament as the Labor member for Drummoyne at the 1953 election. The 1953 New South Wales state election was held on 14 February 1953. It was conducted in single member constituencies with compulsory preferential voting and was held on boundaries created at a 1952 redistribution. The election was for all of the 94 seats in the Legislative Assembly. Issues In February 1953, the ALP had been in power for 12 years and James McGirr, who had led the party to a near defeat in 1950, had lost the premiership to Joe Cahill 10 months earlier. McGirr's period as the Labor leader had been marked by policy indecisiveness, budget overspending and internal conflict. The Liberal Party of Australia (New South Wales Division), commonly known as the New South Wales Liberals, is the state division of the Liberal Party of Australia in New South Wales.
