''Papillon'' is a 1973 epic historical drama prison film directed by Franklin J. Schaffner. The screenplay by Dalton Trumbo and Lorenzo Semple Jr. was based on the 1969 autobiography by the French convict Henri Charrière. The film stars Steve McQueen as Charrière ("Papillon") and Dustin Hoffman as Louis Dega. Because it was filmed at remote locations, the film was quite expensive for the time ($12 million), but it earned more than twice that in its first year of release. The film's title is French for "Butterfly," referring to Charrière's tattoo and nickname. André Maturette
André Maturette (born 1914) was a prisoner in the French Guiana prison colony of Devil's Island who attempted to escape with Henri Charrière and Joanes Clousiot. Biography Maturette was born in France and was arrested in 1932 when he was seventeen for the murder of a taxi cab driver. He was originally sentenced to death by guillotine, but was later sentenced to life because of his young age. In early 1933, Maturette was sent to the penal colony in French Guiana where he met Charrière and Joanes Clousiot, with whom he would eventually escape. In the early morning hours of 28 November 1933 the three escaped from the hospital in Cayenne prison and went to a leper colony, buying a boat from the lepers led by Toussaint. Eventually, they were all recaptured in Colombia, and were returned to French authorities who sentenced them to two years solitary confinement. ''To Rome with Love'' is an American sitcom that aired on CBS from September 28, 1969, to February 24, 1971. Synopsis ''To Rome with Love'' is the story of widowed college professor Michael Endicott, who decided to leave his native Iowa following the death of his wife and accept a new position as an instructor at the American Overseas School of Rome. The culture shock of his children in reacting to their new environment, and to an extent, his own, provided the main humor in the series. Family situations provided most of the rest. Early on, much of this came from Endicott's single sister, Harriet, who followed them to Rome, apparently for the sole purposes of dissuading them from living there and to cajole them into returning to Iowa. Harriet soon departed, but her place was taken shortly afterward by Andy Pruitt, Endicott's father-in-law and the children's grandfather.
