Robert Davenport (dramatist)
Robert Davenport ( fl. 1623–1639) was an English dramatist of the early seventeenth century. Nothing is known of his early life or education; the title pages of two of his plays identify him as a "Gentleman," though there is no record of him at either of the two universities or the Inns of Court. Scholars have guessed that he was born c. 1590; if, as some scholars think, he wrote the Address "To the knowing Reader" in the first quarto of ''King John and Matilda,'' he was still alive in 1655. He enters the historical record in 1624, when two of his plays were licensed by the Master of the Revels.G. E. Bentley, ''The Jacobean and Caroline Stage'', vol. 3 (1956). Pp. 225–238. His extant dramatic canon consists of only three plays: ''The City Nightcap,'' ''A New Trick to Cheat the Devil'', and ''King John and Matilda''. Robert Davenport (Australian Politician)
Robert Davenport (1816 – 3 September 1896) was a pioneer and politician in the early days of the Colony of South Australia. He was a brother of Sir Samuel Davenport. History Robert Davenport was born in Shirburn, Oxfordshire and trained for the law. He and his brother (George) Francis Davenport arrived in South Australia in 1843 and settled at "Battunga" on the "Davenport survey". His more famous brother Samuel lived nearby. The "Davenport survey" was an area defined by "special survey" east of "The Three Brothers survey" (which may have been originally selected for the Davenport brothers, then relinquished), and spreading south of Mount Barker to the source of the Angas, and incorporated the town of Macclesfield, named in honor of the Earl of Macclesfield (presumably the 6th Earl 1850–1896 ). Robert Davenport (cricketer)
Robert Noel Davenport (26 November 1852 – 22 December 1934) was a New Zealand cricketer. He played two first-class matches for Otago, one in each of the 1881–82 and 1883–84 seasons. Robert Noel Davenport was born at Adelaide in 1852. He was the son of Robert Davenport, a pioneer and politician in the early days of the Colony of South Australia.
