Robert Cook (Australian Politician)
Robert Cook (18 April 1867 – 21 May 1930) was an Australian politician. He was a Country Party member of the Australian House of Representatives from 1919 to 1928, representing the Victorian electorate of Indi. Early life Cook was born at Chiltern, Victoria to English splitter Henry Cook and his Irish wife Mary, née Wilkinson. He received little formal education and was soon a land-owner, owning land at Tallangatta and Porepunkah. He married Sarah Anne Weston on 24 December 1894 at Porepunkah; in 1905, they moved to Oxley and established a dairy farm. Local politics Cook was a member of Chiltern Shire Council 1902–04, and was elected to the Shire of Oxley Council in 1908, being its president 1910-11 and 1916–17. He became one of the most active public figures in the Wangaratta district, founding the North-Eastern Co-operative Society Ltd in 1906. Robert William Arthur Cook (12 June 1931 – 30 July 1994), better known since the 1980s by his pen name Derek Raymond, was an English crime writer, credited with being a founder of British '' noir''. Biography Early life The eldest son of a textile magnate, Cook spent his early years at the family's London house, off Baker Street, tormenting a series of nannies. In 1937, in anticipation of the Second World War, the family retreated to the countryside, to a house near their Kentish castle. In 1944, Cook went to Eton, which he later characterised as a "hotbed of buggery" and "an excellent preparation for vice of any kind". He dropped out at the age of 17. During his National Service, Cook attained the rank of corporal (latrines). Robert Raymond Cook
Robert Raymond Cook (July 15, 1937 – November 15, 1960) was a Canadian mass murderer who was convicted of killing his father, Raymond Cook, in Stettler, Alberta, on June 25, 1959. It is alleged that Cook massacred his entire family at their home in Stettler, but was only charged with killing his father. He was found guilty of murder and sentenced to death. After officials declined to issue a reprieve, Robert was hanged in 1960. He was the last person to be executed by the province of Alberta. Early life Robert's mother died when he was 9 years old. Robert Percival Cook FRSE (1906-1989) was an Australian-born biochemist. He advised the UK government on nutritional issues during the Second World War and was considered an expert in the field of nutrition. Robert Manuel Cook, (4 July 1909 – 10 August 2000) was a classical scholar and classical archaeologist from England with expertise in Greek painted vases.
