Robert Cleveland Log House
Robert Cleveland Log House is a historic home located at the Wilkes Heritage Museum in Wilkesboro, Wilkes County, North Carolina. It was originally located east of Purlear near junction of SR 1300 and 1317, and moved to its present location in 1986. It was built about 1780, and is a large two-pen log dwelling with exterior end stone chimneys and an uncoursed stone basement. It was built by Revolutionary War veteran Captain Robert Cleveland, brother of Colonel Benjamin Cleveland, and is probably the oldest dwelling in Wilkes County. Wilkesboro is a town in and the county seat of Wilkes County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 3,687 at the 2020 census. The town is located along the south bank of the Yadkin River, directly opposite the town of North Wilkesboro. Wilkesboro is a Small Town Main Street community and has recently revitalized its historic downtown to include the Carolina West Wireless Community Commons, Wilkes Communications Pavilion, Heritage Square and Splash Pad. The Wilkes County Courthouse in Wilkesboro, North Carolina was designed by Wheeler, Runge & Dickey in Classical Revival and Beaux Arts style. It was built in 1903. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. The listing included three contributing buildings on . It is located in the Downtown Wilkesboro Historic District. Wilkes County is a county located in the US state of North Carolina. It is a part of the state's western mountain region. As of the 2020 census the population was 65,969, in 2010 the census listed the population at 69,340. Its county seat is Wilkesboro, and its largest town is North Wilkesboro. Benjamin Cleveland
Benjamin Cleveland (May 28, 1738 – October 1806) was an American pioneer and officer in the North Carolina militia. He is best remembered for his service as a colonel in the Wilkes County Regiment of the North Carolina militia during the War of Independence, and in particular for his role in the American victory at the Battle of Kings Mountain . Personal life and career Benjamin Cleveland was born in Orange County, Virginia, the fourth child of John and Elizabeth ee CoffeeCleveland, and was of English descent and Irish descent. Robert Cleveland (1744–1812) was an Patriot (American Revolution), American revolutionary from Wilkes County, North Carolina, and served as a Captain (United States), captain in the Wilkes County Regiment of the North Carolina militia under his brother Colonel Benjamin Cleveland. Early life Cleveland was the son of John Cleveland and Elisabeth Coffey Cleveland. He was born on his father's plantations in the American South, plantation in Orange County, Virginia on June 8, 1744; along with several siblings he migrated to western North Carolina sometime around 1769.
