Robert C. Forbes
Robert Charles Forbes (1917–2002) was a United States Army major general who served as commander of the 199th Light Infantry Brigade during the Vietnam War. Early life and education He attended William Penn High School and then graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1939. Military service World War II He served with the 63rd Infantry Division seeing action in France and Germany. Post WWII Forbes was promoted to Brigadier General in July 1966 and appointed assistant division commander of the 9th Infantry Division. Vietnam War BG Forbe deployed to South Vietnam with the 9th Infantry Division in December 1966. He was then reassigned to be chief of staff of II Field Force, Vietnam. In September 1967 when BG John F. Freund was wounded on operations, Forbes was given command of the 199th Light Infantry Brigade and commanded that unit until May 1968. 63rd Infantry Division (United States)
The 63rd Infantry Division ("Blood and Fire") was an infantry division of the United States Army that fought in Europe during World War II. After the war it was inactivated, but later the division number and shoulder sleeve insignia were authorized for use by the 63rd Army Reserve Command (ARCOM). The 63rd Regional Support Command is responsible for the base and administrative support of all United States Army Reserve units throughout the seven-state region of southwestern United States including California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas. The United States Army Security Assistance Command (USASAC) – the 'Army's Face to the World' - implements security assistance programs, including Foreign Military Sales (FMS) of defense articles and services to eligible foreign governments. Tet Offensive
The Tet Offensive was a major escalation and one of the largest military campaigns of the Vietnam War. It was launched on January 30, 1968 by forces of the Viet Cong (VC) and North Vietnamese People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) against the forces of the South Vietnamese Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN), the United States Armed Forces and their allies. It was a campaign of surprise attacks against military and civilian command and control centers throughout South Vietnam. The 9th Infantry Division ("Old Reliables") is an inactive infantry division of the United States Army. It was created as the 9th Division during World War I, but never deployed overseas.
