Colonel Robert Burton Leslie (7 October 1891 – 12 July 1976) was the 8th Commander of the Ceylon Defence Force. He was appointed on 3 March 1935 until 12 May 1937. He was succeeded by Gordon Thorne. Colonel (abbreviated as Col., Col or COL) is a senior military officer rank used in many countries. It is also used in some police forces and paramilitary organizations. In the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, a colonel was typically in charge of a regiment in an army. The 1916 Birthday Honours were appointments by King George V to various orders and honours to reward and highlight good works by citizens of the British Empire. The appointments were made to celebrate the official birthday of The King, and were published in ''The London Gazette'' and in ''The Times'' on 3 June 1916.
