Robert Bownas Mackie
Robert Bownas Mackie (25 Aug 1829 – 18 June 1885) was an English corn merchant and Liberal Party politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1880 to 1885. Background Mackie was the son of Robert J Mackie of St John's Wakefield. He was educated at Wesley College, Sheffield and became a partner in the firm of Robert Mackie and Sons, corn merchants. He was a J.P. for the West Riding of Yorkshire. His brother was John Mackie, J.P. George Gissing
George Robert Gissing (; 22 November 1857 – 28 December 1903) was an English novelist, who published 23 novels between 1880 and 1903. His best-known works have reappeared in modern editions. They include ''The Nether World'' (1889), ''New Grub Street'' (1891) and '' The Odd Women'' (1893). Biography Early life Gissing was born on 22 November 1857 in Wakefield, Yorkshire, the eldest of five children of Thomas Waller Gissing, who ran a chemist's shop, and Margaret (née Bedford). Sir Edward Green, 1st Baronet
Sir Edward Green, 1st Baronet (4 March 1831 – 30 March 1923) was an English ironmaster and a Conservative politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1885 and 1892. Green was the son of Edward Green (engineer), a Yorkshire ironmaster who founded E. Green & Son based in Wakefield and patented "Green's Economiser". This was a device for recycling heat from boilers that previously went to waste. Green was educated at West Riding Proprietary School and in Germany, and became an engineer in his father's business. He served in the 1st West Yorkshire Yeomanry as a lieutenant and later captain. In 1865 he and his wife leased Heath Old Hall, an Elizabethan House near Wakefield which they set about developing and furnishing. In 1877 Green purchased the Snettisham Estate in North West Norfolk, and built a new house, Ken Hill, primarily as a shooting lodge.
