Robert Barra
Robert D. "Bob" Barra (born February 1, 1960) is a Republican who was elected to serve the 21st district of the New York State Assembly in November 2000. Because of redistricting due to the census, Assemblyman Barra became the Assembly member from the newly formed 14th Assembly district. Barra received a B.A. degree in communication and journalism from Hofstra University in 1982. He has worked for the Nassau County Department of Commerce, the North Hempstead Town Board, the Nassau Board of Elections, former congressman David A. Levy, and the Nassau Republican Party. He was an aide to state senator Dean Skelos at three different times between 1996 and 1999. From 1991 until 1997, Barra served on the Lynbrook Village Board of Trustees. New York State Assembly
The New York State Assembly is the lower house of the New York State Legislature, with the New York State Senate being the upper house. There are 150 seats in the Assembly. The Town of Hempstead (also known historically as South Hempstead) is the largest of the three towns in Nassau County (alongside North Hempstead and Oyster Bay) in the U.S. state of New York. Dean Skelos
Dean George Skelos (born February 16, 1948) is an American former politician from Long Island, New York. A Republican, Skelos served in the New York State Assembly and later represented the Ninth District in the New York State Senate from 1985 through 2015. He served as Senate Majority Leader in 2008 and again from 2011 to 2015. Skelos forfeited his Senate seat when he was convicted on federal corruption charges in 2015. In 2017, his conviction was overturned following the U.S. Supreme Court decision in ''McDonnell v. United States''. His retrial resulted in a second conviction on July 17, 2018. Skelos was sentenced to four years and three months in prison, and he began his prison term in January 2019.
