Robert Barbour (cricketer)
Robert Barbour (29 March 1899 – 29 December 1994) was an Australian cricketer. He played six first-class matches for Oxford University Cricket Club and Queensland between 1919 and 1923. He won a Rhodes Scholarship to study at Balliol College, Oxford. He returned to Australia and was warden of Melbourne University Union 1940–54 and senior lecturer in classics 1954–67. Ashfield is a suburb in the Inner West of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Ashfield is about 8 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Berwick () is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, south-east of Melbourne's central business district, located within the City of Casey local government area. Berwick recorded a population of 50,298 at the 2021 census. It was named by an early leaseholder Robert Gardiner after his birthplace Berwick-on-Tweed in Northumberland.
