Robby Barnett
Robby Barnett is one of the founders of the dance company Pilobolus. He and other students in a dance class at Dartmouth College (1971) started using a unique weight-sharing approach to partnering, what Robby called four men twisted together like proteins. This hybrid of dance and gymnastics spurred up many ideas for Robby and the other members of the new company known as Pilobolus. Barnett graduated from Dartmouth in 1972. In an interview with Zachary Whittenburg Mr. Barnett stated that Pilobolus wants to bring in artists rather than solely sticking to dancers. They wanted to add a range of different artists and art styles to what makes Pilobolus. He said the group was trying to see if their theories would translate. The group's goal was to try and bring other forms of art into dance. Pilobolus
''Pilobolus'' is a genus of fungi that commonly grows on herbivore dung. Life cycle The life cycle of ''Pilobolus'' begins with a black sporangium that has been discharged onto a plant substrate such as grass. A herbivorous animal such as a horse then eats the substrate, unknowingly consuming the sporangium as well. The ''Pilobolus'' sporangium survives the passage through the gastrointestinal tract without germinating, and emerges with the excrement. Once outside its host, spores within the sporangium germinate and grow as a mycelium within the excrement, where it is a primary colonizer. Art Spiegelman
Art Spiegelman (; born Itzhak Avraham ben Zeev Spiegelman on February 15, 1948) is an American cartoonist, editor, and comics advocate best known for his graphic novel ''Maus''. His work as co-editor on the comics magazines ''Arcade (comics magazine), Arcade'' and ''Raw (magazine), Raw'' has been influential, and from 1992 he spent a decade as contributing artist for ''The New Yorker''. He is married to designer and editor Françoise Mouly, and is the father of writer Nadja Spiegelman. In September 2022, the National Book Foundation announced that he would receive the Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters. Basil Twist
Basil Twist is a New York City-based puppeteer who is known for his underwater puppet show, "''Symphonie Fantastique''". He was named a MacArthur Fellowship recipient on September 29, 2015. Life and work Originally from San Francisco, Basil Twist is a third generation puppeteer. He graduated from the École Supérieure Nationale des Arts de la Marionnette in Charleville-Mézières, France. He is founder and director of the Dream Music Puppetry Program at Here Arts Center in NYC, which supports and produces new puppet artists. He was a Fall 2015 MacArthur Fellow at the NYU Center for Ballet and the Arts. Twist has significantly contributed to the art of puppetry since 1998. He creates puppet works focused on their integration with music. His ''"Symphonie Fantastique"'', is performed to the symphony of the same name.
