Road Skating
Road skating is the sport of skating (inline skating or quad roller skating) on roads, much like road cycling. It shares much with inline speed skating. Roadskaters often skate in tight packs, drafting each other and sharing the lead, which allows a pack to travel faster than an individual skater. The individual members of a pack use comparatively less energy than the lone skater traveling at the same speed. Even the lead skater in the pack enjoys an advantage from the drafting skaters behind. While gliding downhill, an inline skater in a tucked position can achieve speeds that exceed the speed of a tucked cyclist. This is due to lower wind resistance. The rolling resistance is similar for a cyclist and a skater — it is only when actively skating (i.e., in the skating stroke) that the skater incurs greater resistance. The 2017 World Games ( pl, Igrzyska Światowe 2017), commonly known as Wrocław 2017 (german: Breslau 2017; sli, Brassel 2017), was the tenth World Games, a major international multi-sport event, meant for sports, or disciplines or events within a sport, that were not contested in the Olympic Games, held from 20 to 30 July 2017 in Wrocław, Poland. The World Games were organized by the Wrocław Organizing Committee. Wrocław was selected as the host city in January 2012 in Lausanne, over Budapest, Hungary. It was the first time The World Games was organised in Poland. Wrocław was the sixth city in Europe after London (1985), Karlsruhe ( 1989), The Hague (1993), Lahti (1997) and Duisburg (2005) to host The World Games. Bart Swings (born 12 February 1991) is a Belgian long track speed skater and inline speed skater. He is the 2022 Olympic champion on the speed skating mass start. Swings won Belgium's first gold medal in 74 years and is the first Belgian athlete ever to have won two medals in the Winter Olympics. Johana Viveros Mondragón (born 3 April 1994) is a Colombian inline speedskater who has won multiple medals at the Central American and Caribbean Games, Inline Speed Skating World Championships, Pan American Games and World Games. Career Viveros started skating at the age of 10 in the Alfonso Barberena neighborhood park in Cali. She then went on to the Luz Mery Tristán Skating Club where she received a scholarship to continue training. She qualified for the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada, but she fractured her elbow.
