''Ro-64'', originally named ''Submarine No. 79'', was an Imperial Japanese Navy Type L submarine of the L4 subclass. First commissioned in 1925, she served in the waters of Japan and Chōsen prior to World War II. During World War II, she operated in the Central Pacific, supported the Japanese invasion of Rabaul, and took part in the Aleutian Islands campaign, then in late 1942 was relegated to a role as a training ship. She was sunk in April 1945. Japanese Type L Submarine
The submarines were medium-sized submarines of the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN), serving during the 1920s and World War II. The ''Type L'' submarines were built with Vickers naval technical guidance. All boats were built in the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries-Kobe Shipyard by the contract with Vickers. Draft (hull)
The draft or draught of a ship's hull is the vertical distance between the waterline and the bottom of the hull (keel). The draught of the vessel is the maximum depth of any part of the vessel, including appendages such as rudders, propellers and drop keels if deployed. Draft determines the minimum depth of water a ship or boat can safely navigate. The related term air draft is the maximum height of any part of the vessel above the water.
