Riverwalk Jazz
''Riverwalk Jazz'' was a popular weekly public radio series distributed by Public Radio International that ran from 1989 to 2012. History The series began broadcasting in 1989 and was produced by PVPMedia. The principal performing band on ''Riverwalk Jazz'' is the Jim Cullum Jazz Band. The series co-hosts are bandleader Jim Cullum, Jr. and folklorist and storyteller David Holt. Jim Cullum's Landing Jazz Club on the Paseo Del Rio ( San Antonio River Walk) in San Antonio, Texas serves as the venue where most of the hour-long shows are produced. In 2012, the ''Riverwalk Jazz'' Collection was donated to the Stanford Archive of Recorded Sound by PVPMedia. George Gershwin
George Gershwin (; born Jacob Gershwine; September 26, 1898 – July 11, 1937) was an American composer and pianist whose compositions spanned popular, jazz and classical genres. Among his best-known works are the orchestral compositions ''Rhapsody in Blue'' (1924) and ''An American in Paris'' (1928), the songs " Swanee" (1919) and "Fascinating Rhythm" (1924), the jazz standards "Embraceable You" (1928) and "I Got Rhythm" (1930), and the opera ''Porgy and Bess'' (1935), which included the hit " Summertime". Benny Carter
Bennett Lester Carter (August 8, 1907 – July 12, 2003) was an American jazz saxophonist, clarinetist, trumpeter, composer, arranger, and bandleader. With Johnny Hodges, he was a pioneer on the alto saxophone. From the beginning of his career in the 1920s, he worked as an arranger including written charts for Fletcher Henderson's big band that shaped the swing style. He had an unusually long career that lasted into the 1990s. During the 1980s and 1990s, he was nominated for eight Grammy Awards, which included receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award. The Hot Club of San Francisco is an American gypsy jazz band. Led by guitarist, songwriter, and arranger Paul 'Pazzo' Mehling, the group uses the instrumentation of violin, bass, and guitars from Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli’s Quintette du Hot Club de France and performs arrangements of gypsy jazz standards, pop songs, and original compositions by Mehling. The Hot Club of San Francisco includes violinist Evan Price, the vocals of various members, and a swing rhythm section. Robert Graeme Barnard (24 November 19337 May 2022) was an Australian trumpet and cornet player. He was nominated at the ARIA Music Awards of 1996 for ARIA Award for Best Jazz Album, Best Jazz Album for ''Live at the Sydney Opera House'', which was recorded with the Australian Jazz Allstars. Topsy Chapman (1947–2022) was a Jazz and Gospel musician from New Orleans, Louisiana. Early life Chapman was born in Kentwood, Louisiana. Harold Arlen (born Hyman Arluck; February 15, 1905 – April 23, 1986) was an American composer of popular music, who composed over 500 songs, a number of which have become known worldwide.
