Riverside, Rhode Island
Riverside is a neighborhood in the city of East Providence in the U.S. state of Rhode Island. Despite not being an incorporated city, Riverside has its own zip code, 02915, and is an acceptable mailing address according to the United States Postal Service. Riverside has a population of approximately 20,000 people. Adjoining Riverside are the town of Barrington in Bristol County to the south, Narragansett Bay to the west, the rest of East Providence to the north, and the Runnins River and Seekonk, Massachusetts to the east. History Riverside, known as Cedar Grove until 1878, was originally a farming and fishing area. The streets south of the Maze are named for trees. Squantum Association
The Squantum Association is a private club in East Providence, Rhode Island on 947 Veterans Memorial Parkway. Its main Club House overlooks the Providence River on a rocky promontory. This Colonial Revival building was constructed in 1900 by Martin & Hall and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. The brick bakehouse was built in 1899 and has weathered numerous hurricanes from its lofty perch right on the rocky coast. The "Cottage" is the oldest building on the property and was originally built as a billiard hall. Also surviving from the 19th century is the club office, formerly the manager's residence. The Rose Land Park Plat Historic District encompasses an early 20th-century neighborhood of East Providence, Rhode Island, most of which was built by a single development group. It is located on the west side of Willett Avenue (Rhode Island Route 103), on Florence Street, Princeton and Dartmouth Avenues, and Roseland Court. The district includes 38 residential buildings, and was mostly built between 1928 and 1939 as a streetcar suburb of Providence by Severin Carlson and Carl Johnson. Pomham Rocks Light Station
Pomham Rocks Light (also known as "Pomham Lighthouse") is a historic lighthouse in the Providence River about off the shoreline of the Riverside neighborhood of the city of East Providence, Rhode Island. It is the northernmost lighthouse in Narragansett Bay. History The light was established in 1871. The light was one of a group of New England lighthouses built to the same plan after an award-winning design by Vermont architect Albert Dow. Nearly identical lights were constructed at Sabin Point, Rose Island, Esopus Meadows Light and Colchester Reef. The lighthouse was decommissioned in 1974, and its antique fourth-order fresnel lens donated to the Custom House Maritime Museum in Massachusetts. The lighthouse was sold to a private family in 1974. James Dennis House
The James Dennis House is an historic house located at 3120 Pawtucket Avenue in East Providence, Rhode Island. This two-story wood-frame house was built sometime in the 1870s, and is a fine local example of Queen Anne Victorian style. Its most prominent features are a square tower with pyramidal roof, and a decorated porch that wraps around three sides. Although Pawtucket Avenue once had a significant number of such houses lining it, most have been demolished or significantly altered. The Elm Tree Plat Historic District encompasses an early 20th-century neighborhood of East Providence, Rhode Island. Developed beginning in 1924, it contains 53 single-family residences and one commercial building, most of which were built between 1925 and 1935 as a streetcar suburb development serving the Providence area. Most of the houses were built by a single pair of developers, Severin Carlson and Carl Johnson, and are one and two-story Bungalow-style houses. It is roughly bounded by Willett, Harvey, and Fenner Avenues and Charlotte Street, in southern East Providence. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015. East Bay Bike Path
The East Bay Bike Path is a paved rail trail in Rhode Island. The path begins in Providence and India Point Park, crosses the Seekonk River via the George Redman Linear Park (opened September 2015) and Washington Bridge and continues southeast to Bristol along the shoreline of Narragansett Bay.
