River
A river is a natural flowing watercourse, usually freshwater, flowing towards an ocean, sea, lake or another river. In some cases, a river flows into the ground and becomes dry at the end of its course without reaching another body of water. Small rivers can be referred to using names such as creek, brook, rivulet, and rill. There are no official definitions for the generic term river as applied to geographic features, although in some countries or communities a stream is defined by its size. Aljezur River
The Aljezur River () is a small river in the Portuguese region of the Algarve. The river runs westwards for from its start in the village of Aljezur from the confluence of the River Alfambres and River Cerca to its mouth on the Atlantic western Algarve coast at Praia da Amoreira. Description From its confluence the river loops through a ravine around the base of a hill on which is the ruins of the Morrish castle of Aljezur ( pt, Castelo de Aljezur). The Moors constructed a port at the base of the castle and made the river navigable out to the ocean at Amoreira. The river and port remained navigable until the 18th century after which channel fell into a state of disrepair following the destruction of the village caused by the 1755 earthquake. From Aljezur the river meanders through a narrow valley which is within the Vicentine Coast Natural Park at the seaward end the river opens up to a narrow marshland estuary. Alviela River
Alviela River ( pt, Rio Alviela, ) is a river in Portugal. It is long. The Alviela spring is one of the deepest in the world and is locally connected to a cave complex that represents the most significant fluvio-karstic phenomena in Portugal, one which supports several bat colonies with more than 5,000 bats in total. Alva River ( pt, Rio Alva, ) is a river in Portugal. It flows into the Mondego River The Rio Mondego () or Mondego River is the longest river entirely within Portuguese territory. Alto River
The Alto River (; )) is a small river in the municipality of Póvoa de Varzim, Porto District, Portugal. The river's source is at the foot of São Félix Hill in Laundos Parish, and it empties into the Atlantic Ocean at Rio Alto Beach in Estela Parish. The shoreline of Estela is also known as the Rio Alto. The Alto's minute estuary area is known for its wide sand dunes and has become a tourist destination. One of the local facilities is the Camping Park of Rio Alto, which is surrounded by a forest of pine trees planted by the Monks of Tibães in the 18th Century and the peculiar masseiras farm fields, which were also made by these monks. Nearby are the Estela Golf Club, and the naturist beach area of Alto River. To the north are the ruins of the Roman villa known as Villa Mendo, which was abandoned in the beginning of the early years of Portugal. Alpiarça River
Alpiarça () is a municipality in Santarém District in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 7,702, in an area of 95.36 km2. The present Mayor is Mário Fernando Pereira and the President of the Municipal Assembly is Mario Santiago. The municipal holiday is April 2. Geography Physical geography Alpiarça is situated on a plateau in the landscape of the Vale do Tejo-Lezíria. The main town of Alpiarça is located at approximately above the Tagus Valley, some from the left bank. The morphology of the terrain is marked by plain profile, sparsely covered by vegetation, and intensely proportioned by its proximity to Tagus, alternating with pasturelands.
