Rivers Of America (Disney)
The Rivers of America is the artificial river found in the Frontierland areas of Disneyland-style Disney theme parks around the world. The first river was built in Disneyland when the park opened in 1955. It surrounds Tom Sawyer Island, which can be reached by rafts traveling from the Frontierland mainland. Additionally, there are other water-based vehicles which are found on the river. The sights along the Rivers include a Native American tribe, a burning cabin (though the cabin at Disneyland has been removed), and various audio-animatronic wildlife. As other magic kingdom-style parks were built, similar versions were included. :At Walt Disney World the ''Rivers of America'' is similar to its California counterpart :At Disneyland Paris the ''Rivers of the Far West'' is home to Big Thunder Mountain :At Hong Kong Disneyland, there is no Frontierland, so the Imagineers merged the Rivers of America with the classic Adventureland Jungle Cruise attraction. Jungle river rafts now trave ...

Rivers Of America, Disneyland
A river is a natural flowing watercourse, usually freshwater, flowing towards an ocean, sea, lake or another river. In some cases, a river flows into the ground and becomes dry at the end of its course without reaching another body of water. Small rivers can be referred to using names such as Stream#Creek, creek, Stream#Brook, brook, rivulet, and rill. There are no official definitions for the generic term river as applied to Geographical feature, geographic features, although in some countries or communities a stream is defined by its size. Many names for small rivers are specific to geographic location; examples are "run" in some parts of the United States, "Burn (landform), burn" in Scotland and northeast England, and "beck" in northern England. Sometimes a river is defined as being larger than a creek, but not always: the language is vague. Rivers are part of the water cycle. Water generally collects in a river from Precipitation (meteorology), precipitation through a ...

Mike Fink Keel Boats
Mike Fink Keel Boats (or River Rogue Keel Boats) were small boats that navigated the Rivers of America at Disneyland, the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Park in Disneyland Paris. History The Mike Fink Keel Boats were based on two episodes of the '' Davy Crockett'' miniseries which aired on the ''Disneyland'' TV show in 1955 -- "Davy Crockett's Keel Boat Race" (Nov 16) and "Davy Crockett and the River Pirates" (December 14). The ride was named after Mike Fink, the "King of the River" who lost the keel boat race. The two 38-foot boats, the ''Gullywhumper'' and the ''Bertha Mae'', were the actual props that had been used in making the TV shows a few months earlier. The boats were free-floating and traveled around Tom Sawyer Island Riders would sit on benches either inside the cabin or on the roof of the cabin. The keelboats at Disneyland closed at the end of the summer on September 6, 1994 and remained closed for nearly a year and a half until coming back ...

Pirates Of The Caribbean
''Pirates of the Caribbean'' is a Disney media franchise encompassing numerous theme park rides, a series of films, and spin-off novels, as well as a number of related video games and other media publications. The franchise originated with the theme park ride of the same name, which opened at Disneyland in 1967 and was one of the last Disneyland rides overseen by Walt Disney. Disney based the ride on pirate legends, folklore and novels, such as those by Italian writer Emilio Salgari. ''Pirates of the Caribbean'' became a media franchise in the 2000s with the release of ''The Curse of the Black Pearl'' in 2003; it was followed by four sequels. Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and originally written by screenwriters Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, the films have grossed over worldwide by 2019, putting the film franchise 14th in the list of all-time highest-grossing franchises and film series. The rides can be found at five Disney theme park resorts. Rides and attractions Pirate ...

Dead Man's Chest
"Dead Man's Chest" (also known as "Fifteen Men on the Dead Man's Chest") is a fictional''Fictional sea-song'' - in this sense means a sea-song that first appeared in a work of fiction, and not an authentic sea song; however, this does not mean the song was not later sung in real life by real sailors. For a full treatment of the fictional origin of the song, "wholly original with Stevenson", see sea song,Many sources call "Dead Man's Chest" a sea chanty, however Stevenson himself never called it that, rather the novel says it's a "sea-song" and a "sailor's song". ''Sea-song'' is described in the ''Oxford English Dictionary'' as "A song such as is sung by sailors." (sea-song, n.; Second edition, 1989). The OED defines ''shanty'' as "A sailor's song, esp. one sung during heavy work." The OED has no entry for ''sailor's song''. Since the terms Stevenson used are oblique, it is a matter of interpretation if Stevenson meant it to be a shanty, or not. originally from Robert Louis Steven ...

The Curse Of The Black Pearl
''Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl'' is a 2003 American supernatural swashbuckler film directed by Gore Verbinski and the first film in the ''Pirates of the Caribbean'' film series. Produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer, the film is based on Walt Disney's ''Pirates of the Caribbean'' attraction at Disney theme parks. The story follows pirate Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and blacksmith Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) as they rescue the kidnapped Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) from the cursed crew of the ''Black Pearl'', captained by Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), who become undead skeletons in moonlight. Jay Wolpert developed a script in 2001, and Stuart Beattie rewrote it in early 2002. Around that time, producer Jerry Bruckheimer became involved in the project; he had Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio work on the script, adding the plot device of a supernatural curse to the story to bring it in line with the original theme park ride. Tom Sawyer Island
Tom Sawyer Island is an artificial island surrounded by the Rivers of America at Disneyland, Magic Kingdom and Tokyo Disneyland. It contains structures and caves with references to Mark Twain characters from the novel ''The Adventures of Tom Sawyer'', and provides interactive, climbing, and scenic opportunities. At Disneyland in 2007, the attraction was rethemed and expanded as Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer Island, adding references to Disney's ''Pirates of the Caribbean'' film series. History The area opened in 1956, one year after the opening of Disneyland Park. Prior to the debut of ''Fantasmic!'' in 1992, when the south end of the Island was re-built to facilitate the nighttime show, Tom Sawyer Island saw very little change. In January 2001, the mock rifles at Fort Wilderness were removed from Disneyland after a six-year-old girl lost part of a finger while playing with one. The Island received major upgrades, new show elements, and a complete re-theming in 2007 when it r ...
