River East Transcona School Division
River East Transcona School Division (RETSD) is a school division located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. As the second largest school division in the province, it is composed of parts of what used to be two separate divisions that merged in 2002: the urban section (i.e., Transcona) of the Transcona-Springfield School Division; and the River East School Division. RETSD provides educational services to approximately 16,700 students in 42 schools, as well as operating the McLeod Education Centre for adult learning. The division employs approximately 1,200 teachers and 650 support staff, and offers English and French-immersion programming, as well as English-German bilingual and Ukrainian bilingual. Transcona Collegiate Institute (TCI) is a secondary education institution located in the Transcona suburb of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Murdoch MacKay Collegiate is a public, co-ed high school in the River East Transcona School Division, located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. History The school was named after Murdoch Mackay, a prominent physician, leader of the Manitoba Liberal Party, member of the provincial legislature and long-time Transcona resident. MacKay taught school in his hometown of Melville, Nova Scotia, before coming west and graduating from Manitoba Medical School in 1916. When the building opened in September 1963, one year after his death, his wife, Ruby, attended the official dedication ceremony and laying of the cornerstone. Kildonan East Collegiate is a grade 9 to 12 public high school in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada with an enrolment of 1300 students. It is a part of the River East Transcona School Division. History In 1971, the school opened and was initially named Kildonan East Regional Secondary School. In 1987, the school was renamed to Kildonan East Collegiate. When the school opened in September 1971, it had an enrolment of 651 students. It increased to 1600 students in 1979. In 2014, the schools second floor bathroom was deliberately set on fire causing approximately $500,000 in damages. In 2016, a former student was arrested after posting a video to YouTube threatening the school. Miles Macdonell Collegiate
Miles Macdonell Collegiate is a high school in Winnipeg, Manitoba that opened in September 1952 and is part of the River East Transcona School Division. It is one of the six schools in Manitoba that participate in the International Baccalaureate Program. The school offers classes in French Immersion geared towards university attendance in either official language. Miles Macdonell also offers several vocational tracks of study.
