It was initially launched in 2001 and was nominated for a Webby Award in the Religion & Spirituality category in 2003. The site was redesigned and relaunched in 2005. It seeks to "increase the number of rituals available for Judaism#Jewish holidays, holidays, Shabbat and traditional Judaism#Life-cycle events, lifecycle events. Approach Ritualwell aims to "promote a democratic Judaism where everyone is welcome to submit content and join the conversation."
