Rita And Wally
''Rita and Wally'' is an Australian situation comedy series which screened on ATN-7 in 1968. This series was a spin-off from ''My Name's McGooley, What's Yours?'', which ran from 1966 to 1968. When the title character Dominic McGooley ( Gordon Chater) left that series, it effectively continued as a new series under this title. The other regular cast members, John Meillon and Judi Farr, played the title characters along with Noeline Brown. ''McGooley'' regular Stewart Ginn also continued in this series. Without the heavy makeup that previously transformed his appearance, he played a new character here. The key members of the McGooley creative team also carried over to this spin-off. Situation Comedy
A sitcom, a portmanteau of situation comedy, or situational comedy, is a genre of comedy centered on a fixed set of characters who mostly carry over from episode to episode. Sitcoms can be contrasted with sketch comedy, where a troupe may use new characters in each sketch, and stand-up comedy, where a comedian tells jokes and stories to an audience. In media, a spin-off (or spinoff) is a radio program, television program, film, video game or any narrative work, derived from already existing works that focus on more details and different aspects from the original work (e.g. particular topics, characters or events). One of the earliest spin-offs of the modern media era, if not the first, happened in 1941 when the supporting character Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve from the old time radio comedy show ''Fibber McGee and Molly'' became the star of his own program ''The Great Gildersleeve'' (1941–1957). ''My Name's McGooley, What's Yours?'' is a popular Australian situation comedy series produced by ATN7 from 1966 to 1968. Premise The situation involved a young couple, Wally and Rita Stiller (John Meillon and Judi Farr), living in Balmain with Rita's father Dominic McGooley (Gordon Chater). Also in the regular cast were Stewart Ginn, Robert McDarra, and later Noeline Brown joined as Wally’s sister. Gordon Maitland Chater AM (6 April 1922 – 12 December 1999) was an English Australian comedian and actor, and recipient of the Gold Logie, he appeared in revue, theatre, radio, television and film, with a career spanning almost 50 years. Biography Early life Chater was born in Bayswater, West London and attended Cottesmore School as a child. He attended Cambridge University to study medicine but did not finish his degree, instead taking part in many student revues. Radio and theatre Chater arrived in Australia following World War II. John Meillon
John Meillon, ( ; 1 May 1934 – 11 August 1989), was an Australian character actor, known for many straight as well as comedy roles, he became most widely known internationally as Walter Reilly in the films ''Crocodile Dundee'' and ''Crocodile Dundee II''. He also voiced advertisements for Victoria Bitter beer. He appeared in several Australian New Wave films including ''Wake in Fright'' and ''The Cars That Ate Paris''. Judi Farr
Judi Farr (born c.1938/1939), also credited as Judy Farr, is an Australian former actress of theatre, film and television best known for several situation comedy roles on Australian television. Farr has also appeared in Australian films such as ''December Boys''. Career Farr first became known for her role of Rita in the situation comedy ''My Name's McGooley, What's Yours?'' (1967–1968). She continued to play the character in that show's short-lived sequel series '' Rita and Wally'' in 1968. Noeline Mabel Brown (born 3 October 1938), credited also as Noelene Brown, is an Australian actress and comedian. She has appeared in numerous films, television shows, theatrical productions and radio programs dating back to 1959. Life and career Brown gained local notoriety in Sydney as a cast member of the famous Phillip St Revues and the popular melodrama productions at the Music Hall, a Sydney theatre-restaurant, in the early 1960s. Terence Alan "Spike" Milligan (16 April 1918 – 27 February 2002) was an Irish actor, comedian, writer, musician, poet, and playwright.
