Risso is a village or populated centre in the Soriano Department of western Uruguay. Location The village is located off Route 3, at about northwest of José Enrique Rodó José Enrique Camilo Rodó Piñeyro (15 July 1871 – 1 May 1917) was a Uruguayan essayist. Departments Of Uruguay
Uruguay consists of 19 departments (''departamentos''). Each department has a legislature called a Departmental Board. The ''Intendente'' is the department's chief executive. History The first division of the Republic into six departments occurred on 27 January 1816. In February of the same year, two more departments were formed, and in 1828 one more was added. When the First Constitution was signed in 1830, there were nine departments. These were the departments of Montevideo, Maldonado, Canelones, San José, Colonia, Soriano, Paysandú, Durazno and Cerro Largo. At that time, the department of Paysandú occupied all the territory north of the RÃo Negro, which included the current departments of Artigas, Rivera, Tacuarembó, Salto, Paysandú and RÃo Negro. Soriano Department
Soriano () is a department of Uruguay. Its capital is Mercedes. It is located on the west of the country, south of RÃo Negro Department, north of Colonia Department and west of Flores Department. Its western border is the RÃo Uruguay, separating it from Argentina. History In 1624, a Franciscan Mission established a reduction for the indigenous tribes of the area named Santo Domingo Soriano. In spite of interruptions in its existence, it is considered the earliest populated centre of the actual Uruguay. Eventually, in its place Villa Soriano was founded. The first division of Uruguay in departments happened on 27 January 1816. At the time, eight departments were formed, with Soriano being one of them. Uruguay's calling code is +598. Since 2010, national long distance calling was eliminated, thus there are no area codes in each city. Landline telephony ANTEL (Spanish abbreviation for National Administration of Telecommunications) is Uruguay's state-owned company for telecommunications. Previously in Uruguay, phone numbers used to have between 4 and 7 digits. To make a local phone call, you only had to dial those digits. To make a call between two cities from different departments, you had to dial zero, plus area code, plus phone number. As from August 29, 2010, all phone numbers have 8 digits, according to the new National Numbering Plan. Zero prior to area code was eliminated. Route 3 (Uruguay)
Route 3 is a national route of Uruguay. In 1975, it was assigned the name General José Artigas, the foremost national hero of Uruguay. It is one of the most important highways in the country along with Route 5, connecting the south coast near Rafael Perazza with Bella Unión in the extreme northwest. The road is approximately in length. Although Route 3 starts at Km. 67 of Route 1, its distance notation uses the same Kilometre Zero reference as Routes 1, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and IB, which is the Pillar of Peace of Plaza de Cagancha in the Centro of Montevideo. José Enrique Rodó is a small town in the Soriano Department of western Uruguay. Location The town is located on Route 2, about northwest of Cardona and southeast of the city of Mercedes. History On 12 June 1924, the populated centre was declared a "Pueblo" (village) by the Act of Ley N° 7.729. Previously, it had been head of the judicial sections "San Martin" and "Costa Durazno".
