Risqué (group)
Risqué was an all-female Dutch dance music group from the early 1980s. The members were Dutch women Yvonne van Spluteren (later replaced by Denise van der Hek), Ingrid de Goede, and Irene van der Hoeven, and the British Donna Baron. Biography The four women started out as dancers for the "Maria Moore Dancers" company. They often performed back up dancing for the famous Dutch show TopPop. After they danced for the video accompanying the song Funky Town by Lipps Inc. they were asked to form the girl-group Doris D & The Pins with lead-singer Debbie Jenner. After several hit songs, including ''Shine up'' and ''Dance on'' the record company was pushing for Debbie Jenner to be a more prominent lead singer, while the four "Pins" were given less and less prominence. The "Pins" complained, which triggered the record company to fire theme, and they were replaced by four British back up singers/dancers. Doris D & The Pins were a Dutch-British disco/pop girl group which enjoyed success in the Netherlands and Belgium and to a lesser extent in Germany during the first half of the 1980s. ''TopPop'' is the first regular dedicated pop music television series in the Dutch language area. The Netherlands broadcaster AVRO aired the programme weekly, from 22 September 1970, to 27 June 1988. Presenter Ad Visser hosted for its first fifteen years. The creator and original director of ''TopPop'' was Rien van Wijk. "Funkytown" is a song by the American disco/ funk band Lipps Inc., released in 1980 as the second single from their 1979 debut album, '' Mouth to Mouth''. It was successful globally, reaching top spots in places such as the United States, West Germany, Canada, Austria, Switzerland, Norway, the Netherlands, and Australia. Doris D (born Debbie Jenner; 22 February 1959) is a British singer and dancer who spent her career in the Netherlands. Biography Jenner was born in Skegness, England, and settled in the Netherlands at the age of 20 to start a ballet school there. There, she was a featured dancer in the Dutch pop music television program ''TopPop'', and she worked with the girl group Babe.
