Pontymister
Pontymister (Welsh:''Pont-y-meistr'') is a small village in Caerphilly county borough in Wales. Location Pontymister is attached to its neighbour, the town of Risca. History Originally a farm called ''Tŷ Isaf'', the village came about as a need for housing for the local steel mill and chemical works workforces. Most houses were built in 1920–1925. From the late 1800s there were a number of heavy industries, (steel and chemical), based alongside the River Ebbw. The name Pontymister is said to have come about as the staff were paid from an office built alongside the bridge that connected Tŷ Isaf to Ochrwyth. The bridge became known as the master's bridge, ''Pont-y-Meistr''. Pontymister steelworks was famous for being the graveyard for steam trains. Many were brought there in the early 1960s for their scrap value. Some were saved and moved on to Barry Docks. Monmouthshire Railway And Canal Company
The Monmouthshire Railway and Canal Company was a canal and railway company that operated a canal and a network of railways in the Western Valley and Eastern Valley of Newport, Monmouthshire. It started as the Monmouthshire Canal Navigation and opened canals from Newport to Pontypool and to Crumlin from 1796. Numerous tramroads connected nearby pits and ironworks with the canal. After 1802 the company built a tramway from Nine Mile Point, west of Risca, to Newport, and an associated company, the Sirhowy Tramroad, connected from Tredegar. Steam locomotives were used from 1829. By 1850 pressure was mounting to modernise the line, and in 1848 an Act of Parliament authorised conversion to a modern railway, construction of a new railway from Newport to Pontypool, and a change of name for the Company to the Monmouthshire Railway and Canal Company. Crosskeys Railway Station
Crosskeys railway station is a station serving the village of Crosskeys in the Caerphilly County Borough in Wales. It is on the Ebbw Valley Railway. The station is situated near the former station site closed in 1962, behind houses on Risca Road and Carlton Terrace. The access to the station is via a one-way system off High Street exiting via Carlton Terrace. Crosskeys is a two-platform station and there is no car park. The station provides good access to the village and Crosskeys College.
