The Ripps
The Ripps are an English rock band formed in Coventry in 2003. The band currently consists of Patch Lagunas (vocals/rhythm guitar), Raul Lagunas (lead guitar/backing vocals), Alan Ferguson (bass), Phil Cox (drums) Terry Muttitt (keys/synth) and Lolly Macintosh. Until 2009, the band was a four piece featuring drummer Rachel Butt. History The Ripps were formed by brothers Patch and Raul Lagunas, whose parents were political activists that escaped political persecution from General Pinochet in Chile. Their debut single "Vandals" was released in 2006, followed by their debut album ''Long Live the Ripps''. "Vandals" was praised by Lianne Steinberg of ''Drowned in Sound''. Tom Inkelaar of ''Zap! Bang!'' gave ''Long Live the Ripps'' a mixed to positive review, calling it "derivative but more importantly energetic, fun and throwaway in the best way." Ryder Ripps (born July 7, 1986) is an American conceptual artist, programmer, and creative director. Early life and education Born in New York City to a Jewish family, Ryder Ripps is a son of artist Rodney Ripps and designer Helene Verin. His parents divorced when he was nine years old. After discovering the Internet at the age of 10, he learned HTML and later JavaScript. He attended City-As-School High School and subsequently studied at The New School from 2004 to 2008, graduating with a degree in media studies. He has a younger brother, Ezra, who is also a programmer. Career Commercial work Ripps is the creative director of OKFocus, a digital marketing and design agency and has developed content for a number of contemporary musicians, fashion lines, and corporate brands like Nike and Red Bull. Ribosomally synthesized and post-translationally modified peptides (RiPPs), also known as ribosomal natural products, are a diverse class of natural products of ribosomal origin. Consisting of more than 20 sub-classes, RiPPs are produced by a variety of organisms, including prokaryotes, eukaryotes, and archaea, and they possess a wide range of biological functions. As a consequence of the falling cost of genome sequencing and the accompanying rise in available genomic data, scientific interest in RiPPs has increased in the last few decades. Because the chemical structures of RiPPs are more closely predictable from genomic data than are other natural products (e.g. alkaloids, terpenoids), their presence in sequenced organisms can, in theory, be identified rapidly. This makes RiPPs an attractive target of modern natural product discovery efforts.
