Rio Vermelho State Forest
The Rio Vermelho State Forest ( pt, Floresta Estadual de Rendimento Sustentado Rio Vermelho) is a state forest in the state of Rondônia, Brazil. There are two parts, designated "A" and "B", originally with about in total. Both were later reduced in size, with parts allocated to other conservation units. The status of the forest has been the subject of extended negotiations between the state and the federal government related to the Jirau hydroelectric plant and the illegal occupation of the Bom Futuro National Forest. Porto Velho (, ''Old Port'') is the capital of the Brazilian state of Rondônia, in the upper Amazon River basin, and a Catholic Metropolitan Archbishopric. A state forest ( pt, Floresta Estadual, FES) in Brazil is a type of sustainable use protected area managed at the state level. The primary purpose is sustainable exploitation of the forest, subject to various limits. These include a requirement to preserve at least 50% of the original forest, to preserve forest along watercourses and on steep slopes, and so on. Definition The concept of the State Forest originated with the 1934 Forest Code. It is equivalent to a national forest, but is administered at the state level. Rondônia () is one of the 26 states of Brazil, located in the northern subdivision of the country (central-western part). To the west is a short border with the state of Acre, to the north is the state of Amazonas, in the east is Mato Grosso, and in the south and southwest is Bolivia. Jirau Dam
The Jirau Dam is a rock-fill dam with an asphalt-concrete core, currently under construction on the Madeira River in the state of Rondônia, Brazil. The dam's hydroelectric power stations will have 50 turbines each 75 MW resulting total installed capacity of 3,750 MW. The power plant's first unit was commissioned in September 2013, the 16th in November 2014, 24th in February 2015, the 41st in December 2015, and the last in December 2016. Most of the power is designed to be exported to south-eastern Brazil via the Rio Madeira HVDC system. Mapinguari National Park
Mapinguari National Park ( pt, Parque Nacional Mapinguari) is a national park in the states of Rondônia and Amazonas, Brazil. It covers a large area of Amazon rainforest. Serra dos Três Irmãos Ecological Station ( pt, Estação Ecológica da Serra dos Três Irmãos) is an ecological station in the state of Rondônia, Brazil. It is a strictly protected conservation unit that preserves an area of Amazon rainforest with exceptional biodiversity.
