Rio Nido, California (From Spanish: ''Río Nido'', meaning Nest River) is a small, unincorporated resort community on the Russian River, in Sonoma County, California, United States. It is situated east of Guerneville. The town's name is meant to mean "river nest" in Spanish. One account has it that the name was originally the more grammatically correct "El Rio Del Nido", "referring to the nest of an eagle once seen in a tree on the banks of this stream". Rio Nido's unofficial slogans are "Memories That Linger" and "The Moon Is Always Out In Rio Nido". As of 2010, Rio Nido has about 522 residents. Betty Hutton (born Elizabeth June Thornburg; February 26, 1921 – March 11, 2007) was an American stage, film, and television actress, comedian, dancer, and singer. Early life and education Hutton was born Elizabeth June Thornburg on February 26, 1921, in Battle Creek, Michigan. While she was very young, her father abandoned the family for another woman. They did not hear of him again until they received a telegram in 1937, informing them of his suicide. Betty and her older sister, Marion, were raised by her alcoholic mother, who took the surname Hutton. Marion was later billed as the actress Sissy Jones. Rio Nido is an American jazz vocal group based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Band history Rio Nido is a jazz vocal trio that began as part of the Minneapolis Cedar-Riverside, Minneapolis, West Bank music scene in the early 1970s. The first incarnation of the group consisted of Prudence Johnson on vocals, Tim Sparks on vocals and guitar, and Tom Lieberman on vocals and guitar. Rio Nido performed classic jazz and swing at many Minneapolis hot spots such as The Dakota, New Riverside Cafe and Coffeehouse Extempore. Their first recording was ''I Like to Riff'', released on Shadow Records and featured arrangements of The Boswell Sisters, The Cats and the Fiddle, Stuff Smith, Al Jolson and Nat King Cole.
