Rio Negro State Park South Section ( pt, Parque Estadual do Rio Negro Setor Sul) is a State park in the state of Amazonas, Brazil. It protects an area of Amazon rainforest to the east of the Rio Negro that is home to the endangered pied tamarin. The area was reduced in 2001 and was further reduced in 2014 to create a sustainable development reserve for the people that had been living there since before the park was created. Igapó (, from Old Tupi: "root forest") is a word used in Brazil for blackwater-flooded forests in the Amazon biome. These forests and similar swamp forests are seasonally inundated with freshwater. The Amazon Region Protected Areas Program (ARPA; pt, Programa Áreas Protegidas da Amazônia) is a joint initiative sponsored by government and non-government agencies to expand protection of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. Amazonino Armando Mendes (born November 16, 1939) is a Brazilian politician. He served as the Governor of the Brazilian state of Amazonas for three non-consecutive tenures. He was born in Eirunepé, Amazonas. He first served as governor from 1987 until April 2, 1990, when he resigned from office to run for the Federal Senate. He was elected governor in 1995, serving from 1995 until 2003. In 2017, Mendes was elected Governor of Amazonas succeeding David Almeida, who assumed as interim following the Superior Electoral Court impeachment of former Governor José Melo and former Vice Governor Henrique Oliveira. Campinarana (NT0158, ), also called Rio Negro Campinarana, is a neotropical ecoregion in the Amazon biome of the north west of Brazil and the east of Colombia that contains vegetation adapted to extremely poor soil.
