Rio Negro (Amazon)
The Rio Negro ( pt, Rio Negro, br ; es, Río Negro} "''Black River''"), or Guainía as it is known in its upper part, is the largest left tributary of the Amazon River (accounting for about 14% of the water in the Amazon basin), the largest blackwater river in the world, and one of the world's ten largest rivers by average discharge. Geography Upper course The source of the Rio Negro lies in Colombia, in the Department of Guainía where the river is known as the ''Guainía River''. The young river generally flows in an east-northeasterly direction through the Puinawai National Reserve, passing several small indigenous settlements on its way, such as Cuarinuma, Brujas, Santa Rosa and Tabaquén. After roughly 400 km the river starts forming the border between Colombia's Department of Guainía and Venezuela's Amazonas State. Rionegro
Rionegro () is a city and Municipalities of Colombia, municipality in Antioquia Department, Colombia, located in the subregion of Eastern Antioquia. The official name of the city is "Ciudad Santiago de Arma de Rionegro". Rio Negro means "Black River" in Spanish, as the city received its name after a river that looks black because of the shadows cast by trees. The river traverses the city and it is the most prominent geographical feature of the municipality. The Palácio Rio Negro ( en, Rio Negro Palace) is a palace located in Petrópolis, situated in a mountainous part of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is one of the official residences of the President of Brazil, used mainly as a country retreat. History In 1889, three months prior to the Proclamation of the Republic, Manoel Gomes de Carvalho, the Baron of Rio Negro, purchased from the heirs of the Klippel family the lot where his summer residence would be built. He engaged Italian architect Antonio Jannuzzi, a friend of his, to design the palace and it was completed later in 1889. De Carvalho moved to Paris in 1894, leaving the building empty, and in February 1896, the Palace and adjacent buildings were sold to the State of Rio de Janeiro, to serve as the official residence of the state Governor. The simple station Rionegro is part of the TransMilenio mass-transit system of Bogotá, Colombia, which opened in the year 2000. Location The station is located in northwestern Bogotá, specifically on Avenida Suba with Calle 91. It serves the Rionegro and La Castellana neighborhoods. History In 2006, phase two of the TransMilenio system was completed, including the Avenida Suba line, on which this station is located. The station is named Rionegro, as it is located two blocks from the location where Avenida Suba crosses the Rionegro canal, which runs west of the Juan Amarillo River. The canal runs from the east, from the El Virrey channel through El Virrey park. The neighborhood located to the west of the station takes the same name; Rionegro.
