Koji Shima
was a Japanese film director, actor, and screenwriter. Career Born as Takehiko Kagoshima in Nagasaki, Shima left for Tokyo after graduating from high school. He was in the first class of the Nihon Eiga Haiyū Gakkō and joined the Nikkatsu studio as an actor in 1925. Playing mostly romantic leads, he appeared in films directed by such masters as Tomu Uchida and Kenji Mizoguchi. He turned to directing in 1939, and quickly came to prominence with films such as ''Kaze no Matasaburo (1940 film), Kaze no Matasaburō'', an adaption of a Kenji Miyazawa story, and ''Jirō Monogatari''. After the war, he directed such films as ''Ginza Kankan Musume'' and ''Jūdai no Seiten'' at Shintoho and Daiei Studios. He won a prize at the 1st Moscow International Film Festival for ''Unforgettable Trail''. Some of his last films were made in Hong Kong for Shaw Brothers. was a Japanese actor and film director. He was also known by the name Satoshi Yamamura, while his actual birth name is Koga Hirosada. Yamamura graduated from University of Tokyo. In 1942, Yamamura and Isao Yamagata formed the ''Bunkaza Theatre Company''. He began his career as a screen actor in 1946 and appeared in more than 110 films between 1947 and 1991. In 1953, he debuted as a director with his film Kanikōsen and directed other three films. Yamamura was introduced to Western audiences in the 1958 film The Barbarian and the Geisha. In the US, he is well known for his portrayals of Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto of the Combined Fleet, in ''Tora! Tora! Tora!'', and of Mr. Sakamoto, the CEO of Assan Motors in ''Gung Ho''. Isao Yamagata
was a Japanese film actor. In 1942, Yamagata and So Yamamura formed the ''Bunkaza Theatre Company''. In 1949 he made his film debut with ''Kirareya Senta''. Yamagata became famous for his role in 1953 film '' Gate of Hell''. He became a character actor and often played villainous roles. In 1973, Yamagata landed main role on the TV jidaigeki ''Kenkaku Shōbai''. He died of tuberculosis in 1996. He appeared in more than 180 films between 1951 and 1984.
